All boarders are accommodated in single rooms. Bed linen is provided, but boarders are free to bring their own if they wish. Each room has a working space, wardrobe and drawers as well as a locked box for small amounts of money, the storage of medication, travel documents and passports. Suitable furniture for study is provided, so students do not need to bring their own. Boarders are able to personalise their rooms, although posters or pictures should not feature nudity or promote illegal activity. Please only use Blue Tack or similar to attach things to the walls. Items that are offensive or dangerous will be removed.
Boarders are personally responsible for looking after their own rooms and for what happens in their rooms, in particular for any damage to furniture, walls and fittings. Any damage must be reported promptly.
Students’ rooms and washing facilities are cleaned daily so housekeepers will need to come into rooms. If a student sees anything which has not been cleaned, they should report it. Bedding is changed once a week. Rooms should be kept clean and tidy and the furniture in the rooms should be treated with respect. The bedroom floor should always be clear and accessible for housekeeping and maintenance staff. Electrical items, such as laptops, should be switched off and unplugged when they are not being used. Students must not have kettles or other electrical cooking items in their rooms
Please visit “What to bring” and “ what not to bring” for a more precise list.
The College electrician is required by law to safety test any electrical appliance that is brought into the boarding accommodation. If any item does not meet with the safety requirement it will have to be removed. Students must not burn incense sticks, candles or oils in their rooms, as this presents a fire hazard.
