6th Form students are able to return to their rooms between lessons.
This is your journey and we want to guide, support and challenge you to your desired destination. Take ownership over your learning and use the time in your timetable where you do not have a lesson wisely.

Students must arrive punctually for all their lessons and all boarders should make sure that they have a reliable alarm clock, rather than using their mobile phone to wake them. We expect boarding students to be up and ready to start their day by 08.45, whether or not they have lessons that begin in the morning. Boarders reported absent are contacted on their mobile; if there is no response a member of boarding staff will go to the student’s room.
Boarders who feel unwell in the morning or during the school day must report to or contact the office/boarding staff in the first instance. If the nurse is on the premises, she will be consulted. If any boarders have an appointment during the day, for example a medical appointment or university visit, they should let the main office know in advance.
Boarders who are repeatedly late will have measures put in place to improve punctuality.
GCSE students
GCSE students (years 10 and 11) have lessons from 09.00 – 16.00 Monday to Friday, with fixed times for breaks and lunch. All GCSE students are to hand in their keys to staff in the Boarding Hub before morning registration (08:45) as they are not to return to their rooms during the day.
A Level students:
A-level lessons are timetabled between 09.00 – 18.00, Monday to Friday. Breaks are given during the lessons according to lesson plans.
Registration of A Level students:
All students are required to be registered at 9am. If students are in lessons at this time the teacher will register the attendance. However, if a student does not have a timetabled lesson at 9am they are to register in the Boarding Hub before 09:30.
We encourage boarders to work within the College during their free time so they can ask teachers for help or advice. There is an IT suite in the media section of New Court for quiet study. We expect all students to use this room responsibly.
Please note the College timetable is customised to allow students to take a wide variety of subject combinations. It usually takes a few weeks to settle down as inevitable changes occur for various reasons, so your patience is greatly appreciated.
If you have any queries about your timetable you should speak to your personal tutor or sixth form staff as soon as possible.
Parents/guardians must give written consent for students to drop a subject. Boarders should not change or drop subjects without prior consultation with, and agreement from, parents/guardians and personal tutors. It is essential that this is discussed thoroughly and properly; therefore, students must continue to attend all lessons on their original timetable until they receive a new one.
Students are allocated a personal tutor who will oversee their progress and development. They provide advice on university applications and work with boarders to help them achieve their potential. A key aspect of their role is to provide feedback on academic progress to both students and parents, as well as to help and encourage students to devise effective ways of dealing with problem areas and improving performance. Personal tutors are the first port of call for all academic and pastoral matters, so if any significant or urgent matters arise, boarders should see them straightaway or leave a message with the front desk administrator in the Star Hill office. There will be regular personal tutor meetings (called student interviews) so boarders should check messages and emails and look out for notices which will be placed in communal areas for the interview times. The boarding staff will also let students know their meeting time.
All classrooms should be kept tidy and the furniture treated with respect. No food or drink should be taken into classrooms or study rooms and should only be consumed in the canteens or ground floor common room of 37 Star Hill. Please remember to take your crockery and cutlery from these areas back to the kitchen area of the canteen. Fizzy drinks are not permitted and chewing gum is banned throughout the College.
Mobiles should be turned off during lessons and only used during break or lunchtime. Emergency phone calls can be made from the office. If students persistently use their phone in lessons it will be confiscated until the end of the day.
