Te Reo

Naumai haere mai e te whānau

Here at Rhode Street School, we are all learning to speak Te Reo and each of us is at our own stage of learning our national language. As a Kura, we are teaching te reo at least 30% of the school week through integrated curriculum and emersion practices to all ākonga.

Our kaiako are also learners and several are enrolled in the Ministry of Education funded te reo classes Te Ahu o te Reo Māori facilitated by Tupuora using their Te Rekamauora Ki Tainui programme.

We are also fortunate to have a small number of fluent speakers of te reo on our staff who role model and support everyone's learning.

Kapa Haka is also a meaningful medium we use to teach te reo and tikanga to our tamariki. Tutors are sourced from our local hapu, Ngaati Mahaanga and we learn waiata and haka composed from within this rohe. The opportunity to perform and celebrate our learning is always encouraged and celebrated with our whānau.
