9 Languages
Year 9 Languages Overview
Year 9 elective languages are all full year courses, often with opportunities available to participate in international travel to some of our International Partnership Schools. Students will also have various opportunities to communicate and collaborate with students from our International Partnership Schools on online platforms, developing further attributes as an active global citizen. Prior experience in the selected language is a requirement.
French / Length: Full Year
Course Content
Year 9 French builds on the skills in Year 8, further developing students’ ability to comprehend and communicate in the language. Students expand their knowledge of grammar and vocabulary in topics such as food, shopping, directions, transport and home and personal life.
Assessment
Students are assessed in their ability to demonstrate understanding and communicate in the language through a range of written and spoken assessment tasks.
Additional Details
This is a full year course.
Students must have successfully completed Year 8 French.
There may be associated costs throughout the semester for excursions and other learning opportunities.

German / Length: Full Year
Course Content
Year 9 German builds on the skills learned in Year 8, further developing students’ ability to effectively comprehend and communicate in language on topics such as food, weather, shopping, transport, work and home life. Students will be able to express their abilities, preferences and justify their views in German at the end of this course.

Students are assessed in their ability to demonstrate understanding and communicate in the language through a range of written and spoken assessment tasks.

Students must have successfully completed Year 8 German.

Japanese / Length: Full Year
Course Content
Year 9 Japanese builds on the skills in Year 8 further developing students' vocabulary in questioning and answering, verbs and adjectives. Students focus on mastery of Hiragana and Katakana with an introduction to Kanji. Topics covered include seasons, weather, festivals, directions, shopping and food.

Students are assessed in their ability to demonstrate understanding and communicate in the language through a range of written and spoken assessment tasks.

Students must have successfully completed Year 8 Japanese.
There may be associated costs throughout the semester for excursions and other learning opportunities.
A languages scholarship is available for international travel opportunities to our partnership schools in Japan.
