Year 10 Arts Overview
Students may select one or more of the following Arts courses for their choice subjects. Semester length courses can be extended into a full year program with variation of content offered for extended learning. Arts Academy students are encouraged to do a full year or combination of Arts subjects according to their specialist interest.
Dance: Hip Hop and More / Length: 1 Semester or Full Year
Course Content
Students will develop understanding of a range of dance genres for performance. Dance choreography is explored for a live audience and technical tasks are completed in the genres of hip hop, jazz and contemporary. Students can also gain skills in off-stage roles such as lighting and sound design and they have the opportunity to perform on stage for Fringe@REC, the whole school production, the Arts showcase, dance nights (including the choreographic competition) and the runway show. Students use problem solving in teams and reflect upon their learning.
Assessment
Assessment includes the completion of technical tasks and dance products.

Ticket purchase for a dance excursion may be required.

Drama / Length: 1 Semester or Full Year
Course Content
This program teaches the vital skills and in-depth exploration of acting and stagecraft. Students will train and develop their skills through fun, practical exercises, study and perform classical and contemporary plays from a range of playwrights. They will present their work to an audience. Students will participate in fun, theatre-based exercises, devise short performances to present to the class, respond to and reflect upon those performances and will perform in a larger class performance.
Assessment
Classroom exercises, short presentations and a class performance.

Students may need to purchase a ticket for a theatre or film excursion linked to their assessment.
Film Making / Length: 1 Semester or Full Year
Course Content
In Film Making, students learn how to create short films and animations through collaborative script writing, camera, lighting, sound, costumes and props design. Students choose a film genre or a writer/director or designer to inspire their own creative product. In a group, students take on specific roles such as camera operation, presenting in front of the camera and editing. Student film makers can be nominated for awards and prizes at our 'Red Carpet Film Night' as they consider how films can be both entertaining and thought provoking.
Assessment
Short film products, practical skills with inquiry research is assessed using the Media Arts achievement standard.

Film Making can continue up to Year 12 as Creative Arts and has industry pathways.
Music Experience / Length: 1 Semester
Course Content
Students will extend on the basics of contemporary music, sound and notation as well as playing various songs in small or class ensembles. Composing and arranging in the various styles will be studied using music technology. Solo and ensemble performances will be given on the students’ chosen instrument. Students are expected to participate in either Concert Band or Senior Vocal Ensemble.
Creativity: solo and ensemble rehearsal and performance skills, arranging (70%).
Literacy: musical theory and notation, ATSI and Australian musicians and careers, review writing, reflection and analysis on creative works (30%).
Assessment
Practical participation, composition, theory and written tasks.
Additional Details
Year 9 Music is preferred knowledge and students are encouraged to learn an instrument within the school’s instrumental music program or privately outside of school.
Instrumental hire and administration fees apply to students who are learning an instrument within the school’s instrumental music program.

Course Content
Students express their creative ideas through drawing, painting, printmaking and/or sculpture. Students further extend existing knowledge and skills to develop and refine their own artistic style and conceptual intentions using a variety of media and materials. By engaging in the analysis, planning, production, presentation and evaluation of visual art projects, students respond to influences that may include past and contemporary Australian and/or international artists and artworks.
Assessment
Students will be assessed through a variety of making (practical) and responding (written and/or oral) tasks.

Visual Design / Length: 1 Semester or Full Year
Course Content
This course aims to build on the 2D and 3D and animation, computer-based skills and knowledge that are introduced in Year 9 Visual Design. Students will develop and apply skills in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and SketchUp to a range of graphic, animation, product and built environment design projects. Students will explore the techniques for making and presenting both 2D and 3D and animated designs using a range of software including Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and SketchUp. Emphasis will be placed on the design process in researching, analysing and generating creative solutions to a range of practical design problems.
Assessment
Students will be assessed though a variety of making (practical) and responding (theory tasks) through the semester.
