Students study a compulsory semester of History but may also select the following Global Studies semester courses as a choice subject:
This course builds upon the skills developed in Middle School Global Studies. During the semester students will focus on developing their understanding of geographical inquiry through an investigation of human wellbeing and managing environmental change. Students will also have an opportunity to explore the role of tourism and economics and its connection to sustainability.
Students will be assessed against the Australian Curriculum Achievement Standards. There will be a range of major assessment pieces which involve writing, speaking, creating, inquiring and researching.
There may be a cost throughout the semester for excursions and opportunities that align with the Learning and Assessment Plan.
In this course, students will explore and develop strategies on how to become a culturally competent global citizen through an extension of the Year 10 Geography curriculum and through a collaborative set of assessments completed alongside students from our partner school in Reunion Island. Students learn about global politics, international government issues and different world ideologies, as well as studying how international organisations play a role in making improving livelihoods for people across the world. Lastly, students will consider the soft skills required to be successful in employment abroad.
Students will be assessed against the Stage 1 Integrated Learning performance standards. There will be 4 major assessment pieces which involve collaboration with peers across the globe, inquiry and research.
Students who choose this course will be the first to be considered for a trip to Reunion Island in mid-2024.
A high level of achievement in Year 9 Global Studies is recommended and there is a strong focus on reading and analysis.
This course is worth 10 SACE credits (Stage 1) and assessed according to the Integrated Learning performance standards.
This elective course is designed as a precursor to the study of Global Studies subjects in the senior years, particularly Modern History and Society and Culture. Students are able to negotiate their own preferred focus area of significant 20th and 21st century developments, but typically imbalances of power, global injustices and the rise of terror have been core topics of investigation in previous years.
Four tasks will be completed throughout the semester including at least one group task and one investigation.
