Year 11 Arts Overview
Students may select one or more of the following Arts courses for their choice subjects. Semester length courses can be extended into a full year program with variation of content offered for extended learning. Arts Academy students are encouraged to do a full year or combination of Arts subjects according to their specialist interest.
Creative Arts: Film Making and Production Events / Length: 1 Semester or Full Year
Course Content
Students create a practical skills set and a short film or live presentation in an area of special interest such as acting or directing for film or a live event, camera operation, editing for screen, stage management, set, costume, make-up design or lighting/sound for film or live performance. An inquiry is also completed of a director/designer/practitioner in an area of special interest. Students can link their extra-curricular activities such as the whole school production or the REC film makers group in their task design.
Assessment
A product and folio: film or production event (50%).
Practical skills in an area of specialist interest (25%).
An inquiry of a practitioner: director or designer (25%).
Additional Details
Students work both individually and in teams with some out of class time commitment if required.
Future pathways for this learning program include Stage 2 Creative Arts: Film Making and Production Events.
An additional semester of this course can be taken to create a full year program with variation of content offered for extended learning.

Creative Arts: Visual Arts / Length: 1 Semester or Full Year
Course Content
Students create a practical skills set and visual arts product in an area of special interest such as drawing, painting, printing, clay, sculpture, mixed media or digital design. An inquiry is also completed on a visual artist with practical appropriation of their 'signature style'. Students can link their learning to community projects such as mural artwork, magazine publications, publicity posters and the curation of virtual or live exhibitions. This program is designed for students who wish to pursue visual arts as an experience for creativity rather than the advanced skills development in the Visual Art or Visual Design program.
Assessment
A product and folio (50%).
Practical skills in an area of specialist interest (25%).
An inquiry of a visual art practitioner(25%).

Dance / Length: 1 Semester or Full Year
Course Content
Students will develop understanding of a range of dance genres for performance. Dance choreography is explored for a live audience and technical tasks are completed in the genres of hip hop, jazz and contemporary. Students can also gain skills in off-stage roles such as lighting and sound design and they have the opportunity to perform on stage for Fringe@REC, the whole school production, the Arts showcase, dance nights (including the choreographic competition) and the runway show. Students use problem solving in teams and reflect upon their learning.

Drama / Length: 1 Semester or Full Year
Course Content
The Stage 1 Drama program gives you the opportunity to participate in a class theatre performance. You will spend time in class rehearsing before performing in a theatre to the public, using industry standards. You can also choose to take an off-stage role in the performance such as lighting, sound and costume. You will still develop your team work, confidence and communication skills through fun games and practical exercises and also demonstrate your abilities in a drama production.
Assessment
Participation in classroom games.
Practical exercises.
A class performance.
Inquiry with reflection.
Additional Details
For this program, we recommend a positive mindset and a willingness to participate.
Students may need to purchase a ticket for a theatre or film excursion.

Music / Length: 1 Semester or Full Year
Course Content
Students will show creativity in performance and composition. They will demonstrate musical literacy skills as they reflect on their creativity. Students are expected to be learning an instrument within the school's instrumental music program or privately outside of school and are expected to participate in either Concert Band or Senior Vocal Ensemble.
Creativity: solo and ensemble rehearsal and performance skills, arranging (80%)
Literacy: reflection and analysis on creative works, jazz harmony (20%)
Assessment
5 creative works.
2 literacy tasks.
Additional Details
Successful completion of Year 10 Music is a prerequisite.
Students are expected to be learning an instrument within the school's instrumental music program or privately outside of school.
Instrumental hire and administration fees apply to students who are learning an instrument within the school’s instrumental music program.

Visual Art / Length: 1 Semester or Full Year
Course Content
Students explore, document and evaluate the development of their creative ideas and technical skills in the pursuit to refine and communicate their own artistic style and conceptual intentions using a variety of media and materials via a folio, culminating in a final practical work. Students extend existing knowledge and skills by engaging in the analysis and investigation of an aspect of the visual arts via a teacher-directed visual study.
Assessment
Visual study (30%).
Folio (40%).
Practical (30%).
Additional Details
Visual Art can continue up to Year 12 and has industry pathways.
Students are invited to an excursion to view the SACE Arts Show and other exhibitions. A small cost may be required for excursions.

Visual Design / Length: 1 Semester or Full Year
Course Content
This course provides a foundation of skills, knowledge and understanding in design. This will then be applied to producing a negotiated design folio and final practical presentation. Students will be introduced to the processes of creating graphic design using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. Emphasis is placed on the design process and the creative and analytical skills involved in the generation of design solutions at this level of study. Students can be extended with negotiation from the following genres of design:
Graphic and visual communication design: logos, illustration, web pages, posters and animation.
Product design such as toy, fashion, stage, furniture and engineering design.
Environmental design such as sustainable, interior and exterior architectural design.
Assessment
Visual study (30%).
Folio (40%).
Practical (30%).
