About Reflections

Founded in 1969, Reflections is an arts contest organized by the National PTA that encourages all students in prekindergarten through grade 12 to explore the arts for fun and recognition. It has served more than 10 million students.

Reflections provides the opportunity for regional, state and national awards and recognition.  The winners from each school advance to compete with their peers at the school district, regional, state and national level.

Reflections calls for students to REFLECT on a common theme and use their imagination to CREATE original works of art.  All participants CELEBRATE and share their artistic works with their family, school and community.

Participants may submit entries in any of 6 categories:

Participants compete with their peers at one of 5 age/ability levels:

The Special Artist Division is for students who identify as having a disability and who may receive services under IDEA or ADA: Section 504.  This division welcomes students from ALL grades and offers non‐artistic accommodations in order for students to participate fully in Reflections. Alternatively, these students may choose to forgo the non‐artistic accommodations and enter in the traditional grade division most closely aligned with their functional ability.

Reflections at Adams Middle School is organized and supported by Adams Middle School PTSA.  If you have any questions about the program, please contact Mrs. Crompton in the Adams Library at acrompton@rbusd.org or 310-798-8636 x3908.  This website will be used to post rules, tips, dates and information for all participants.

Reflections Theme Search

How are Reflections themes chosen? By students like you!

If you have a great idea for a theme for an upcoming Reflections contest, you might like to enter the 2024-2025 National PTA Reflections Theme Search! Simply click on the link below and follow the instructions to enter the contest. There are also links to show you the themes from years past so that you don't duplicate a previous theme. Deadline for submissions is Nov 1, 2023.

All submissions will be reviewed by California State PTA’s Reflections Committee, who will forward their favorite theme ideas to National PTA for consideration. From the nationwide search, one exceptional theme will be selected to inspire creativity in Reflections Program participants.  Next year's theme will be announced by National PTA in June 2023 and the student who submits the winning entry will receive $100!
