Dear Families,
After four days of learning new systems and routines, students found it easier to navigate between platforms and activities today, and started to reinforce their own learning routines at home.
PYPX
What will the PYP Exhibition look like? That was a big question this week and students continued today to question and brainstorm how they could share their PYP learning with an audience online. Some students explored Google Sites as a possible way for Grade 5 to share their PYP knowledge. Students continued working on summarizing their research. Roles and responsibilities continue to be managed and mentor meetings and connections continue to be made.
MATH
In math, different online platforms that targeted student developmental levels in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division have been used. Students worked at different levels of challenge and on different topics, but the overall math focus today was to reinforce prior knowledge/concepts and to continue to develop mathematical skills. Some students spent time working on the extension of the four basic operations in problem-solving.
LANGUAGE
Language arts was mainly focused on writing summaries in complete sentences, using language to cite sources and making their summaries clear and concise. Students worked at different levels of challenge and also on different topics. Students continued the practice of daily Independent Reading and posting some of their learning on SeeSaw.
With schedules and learning routines established, students will be expected to meet more often with their PYPX groups next week as we get deeper into the PYPX process.
Kindest regards,
Your PYP 5 Team.
Dear families,
Welcome to another school day. As we keep living interesting and challenging moments, we go back to normal days where learning keeps playing an essential role in our daily lives.
Today's PYPX focus was based on the research stage. Learners continued to research and find out answers for their last line of inquiry guiding questions.
Also they continued to make lines of inquiry products that could be shared within the community. Learners were reminded to create clear and catchy pieces of work where evidence of deep understanding and appropriate research was shown.
They started to brainstorm ideas to create a summary of their first line of inquiry.
PYPX guidance, discussions and tasks will continue to be set during our Zoom meetings. We would like to thank every mentor for their kind support and guidance.

Students worked at different levels of challenge and on different topics, but the overall math focus today was to reinforce prior knowledge/concepts and to continue to develop mathematical skills. We keep working on the extension of the four basic operations, the inclusion of decimals in real-life situations, and problem-solving involving different Math concepts. Also they worked on mental math strategies using online platforms such as topmarks speed challenge.
Language arts was mainly focused on writing. Students worked at different levels of challenge and on different topics, but the overall focus was to establish reading spaces where students read for pleasure and also read for understanding for up to 30 minutes.
Using different prompts learners wrote a paragraph summary. This was an opportunity to display writing objectives such as capitalization, grammar, sentence fluency, organization and media literacy.
We are extremely glad to make part of this fantastic learning journey. Thank you very much for your understanding, commitment, and support.
Kindest regards,
Your PYP 5 Team.
Dear families,
Welcome to a new online learning update.
PYPX:
Students divided roles and responsibilities of group tasks. They are all currently working on summarizing their research and submitting writing to their teacher for feedback. They are also meeting with their mentors and updating their teacher with a mentor feedback form. Some groups have connected with an expert while others continue to proactively search for one. I have met with each individual group once and I will meet with each group one more time this week.
PYP Exhibition teams received very positive feedback from their homeroom teachers and mentors. Students keep working on their research stage products. They continue to collect and analyze data.
PYPX Exhibition groups received instruction from their homeroom teacher about their research notes. Special commendation goes to Omar K. who produced notes of the highest order. Groups then went on to fine-tune their research notes for the first line of inquiry. Their effort is to be applauded!
Maths:
Students engaged in online friendly challenges on www.arcademics.com and www.kahoot.com during support zoom meetings today. They worked on multiplication of facts, rounding decimals and adding decimals. Students continue to work on their www.studyladder.com set tasks. Those that are finished set tasks on study ladder have been given access to login details for www.sumdog.com, another great online learning site.
Learners continue to develop mathematical skills that are necessary to solve real life problems involving decimals. Once again online platforms like khan academy and k5 learning were successful ways for students to practice.
The class continued working to understand addition, subtraction multiplication and division on such comprehensive sites as eSpark and Kahn Academy. Learners also engaged in problem solving and how to transfer their knowledge from skill to application in the world outside of school.
Language:
Learners answered engaging questions requiring complex questions. They used concepts of punctuation, capitalization and sentence structure in authentic situations to advance their ability in these essential skills.
Students submitted their written answers to PYPX inquiry questions and were provided with a video on how to write a good summary. Teacher feedback about punctuation, grammar, sentence fluency and citing sources was provided.
Students continued to use RaZkids to develop communication and thinking skills. They were able to read different books that helped them connect ideas, understand other perspectives and construct meaning.
We continue to be extremely happy to support your children's learning.
Best regards,
Your PYP 5 Team.
Dear families,
Welcome to a new online learning update.
Our main academic focus over these two days of the week keeps being the PYPX, math, reading and writing. Some of the approaches to learning that students could develop were thinking, self management, communication and research skills.
We are about to finish our PYPX inquiry cycle research stage. Students keep in contact with their mentors who keep being a tremendous support to move forward. Skills like organizing and interpreting data, and analysis and comprehension of different sources of information were widely developed.
Our main math focus is to review and reinforce prior knowledge/concepts and to continue to develop mathematical skills. We continue to work on different online platforms that support our mathematical inquiry process. Youtube videos, Khan Academy, studyladder and other resources keep being such a meaningful support. Skills like comprehension and application were widely developed.
Reading and writing were guided by other online platforms such as RaZkids and Dogonews. Students continue to write more extended responses, deep summaries, and to improve sentence structures and spelling. Skills like reading and writing were widely developed.
One parent wanted to share with you an incredible resource with tons of free literature pieces. It is called Storyonline and the link to access this significant resource is https://www.storylineonline.net/
We continue to be extremely happy to support your children's learning.
Best regards,
Your PYP 5 Team.
Dear families,
Welcome back to another school day. As we keep living interesting and challenging moments, we go back to normal days where learning keeps playing an essential role in our daily lives.
It was very rewarding to see our young people back today. Their empathy, hard work and passion are a vital part of our process.
Others added more to their research notes. And we all asked the question, “What will the PYP Exhibition look like?”
More PYPX guidance, discussions and tasks will be set tomorrow during our Zoom meetings.

Dear families,
Our main academic focus over these two days of online learning has been the PYPX. We keep working on our PYPX inquiry cycle research stage.
Our G5 learners keep doing deep and broad research around their lines of inquiry. Their guiding questions have been a successful way to continue their journey into the inquiry cycle.
Learners have contacted their mentors who have been a tremendous support to move forward. G5 learners have also found experts that can extend their understanding. They have started to communicate with them, and have worked on interview questions. They have also updated and refined their action plan, and have already started to discuss what a potential online action might look like.
Our main Maths focus has been to reinforce prior knowledge/concepts and to continue to develop mathematical skills. We keep working on the extension of the four basic operations, the inclusion of decimals in real-life situations, and problem-solving involving different Math concepts.
Also, we have worked on reading spaces where students read for pleasure and also read for understanding. Online tools like Razkids have been of great help to support and continue to develop thinking and research skills.
