Dear families,
Welcome to our fourth week of online learning. We know it might feel like a roller coaster ride some days, but with every week that pass the journey is getting easier and more exciting. Thank you to you as parents for supporting your child in their journey to explore new ways of learning.
Please find shared the PYP 4 Continuous Learning Weekly Overview for all subject areas. This is a continuous document so topics might only be added the day before at this stage. We realize that this is a continuous transition period, please continue to reach out for any support and assistance.

Dear families,
We thank you for your support in ensuring continuity of learning as we have transitioned to our new distance learning environment. We are extremely proud of our learners and how they have adapted and been successful in managing their learning time and tasks. At the end of our first week of distance learning, we can positively reflect on the learning skills and dispositions that we can see in action.
We hope that next week you can take some time to connect as a family and find time for relaxation. Learning will resume on Sunday, March 22, 2020. Please continue to check for updates through our Seesaw pages and Google Classroom platforms.
We realize that this transition period brings with it a period of adjustment, so please continue to reach out for any support and assistance.
We wish you and your families a safe holiday period and we look forward to reconnecting after the break.
PYP4's discussions today were focused on reflecting on yesterday's learning. The discussions were focused on the skills of analyzing word problems to apply mathematical strategies to solve the problems. The students also discussed the connections made between the a "Bill Nye experiment" and their own experiments. Students applied their understanding of the method of an experiment, the imperative verbs and transitions words used in order to make the experiment successful. The PYP 4 students also inquired into the transformation that took place and compared it to their own experiment.
As PYP4 team we observed how students continued to wonder, ask questions and participate as active listeners during distance learning.
Reflection on the first day of learning
The first day of Online Learning was very exciting for both the students and teachers. Students inquired into the function of our different platforms; Google classroom, Zoom and SeeSaw; in order for learning to take place. It was delighted to see how balanced our students were using the platforms for learning but also collaborating with their class peers on a social aspect.
PYP4 focuses for the coming week:
Mathematics
Applying different multiplication and division strategies to solve word problems
Unit of Inquiry
Students will inquire into the Scientific methods when conducting experiments.
While inquiring into experiments students will focus on the following:
Transformation in experiments
Method of experiments
Transition words used when conducting experiments
Imperative verbs used when conducting experiments
Scientific vocabulary used during experiments
Literacy
Students will read passages related to our unit of “How the world works” and complete comprehension focusing on the following skills:
Close reading strategy -
Read the passage once.
The second reading of the passage, identifying unfamiliar vocabulary and mind the meaning of the words. The meaning would be noted down.
Students read the question to focus the main ideas to identify.
The third reading of the passage, focuses on identifying the main ideas.
After the third read, students then answer the questions.
