Thursday 14 May

Congratulations on successfully completing another week of online learning! I remain impressed at the continued dedication that you are all showing to your learning. As we head into the weekend, remember to take time to turn off the technology and do something together as a family.

Wednesday 13 May

It seemed to be a very productive catch up day yesterday. I have received many emails from teachers about work that has been submitted. Thank you for taking advantage of the day. There are still several Callido Skills Growth Assessments that have not been complete. I will email those specific students this afternoon. Thank you to those of you that have completed the work for Callido.

Monday 11 May

Tomorrow is a catch up day and the number one thing on everyone's "To Do" list should be completing the Callido Skills Growth Assessment. Please make sure you take full advantage of the time to complete missing work. We are nearing the end of the year and teachers will be completing final marks. Every point counts!!

Tuesday 5 May

There wasn't any new work posted today but you all had a chance to catch up with any missing work. Many of you received an email from me this morning identifying the classes you were missing assignments. As you complete the work, make sure you submit it and then email the subject teacher and me. We will go back and change your attendance after we have received the completed work.

If you have not checked in with your Homeroom teacher, make sure you do this. They are marking your attendance today. You should have received an email with instructions to complete a Callido survey, please make sure you complete that today.

Tomorrow is your catch up day. I will be sending emails this afternoon regarding missing work from Thursday and Sunday. When looking at yesterday's attendance, I observed a high number of students marked absent from Performing Arts on Thursday. Be prepared for that email.

As we end another week of online learning and close out another month of the 20-21 school year, I continue to be impressed by your dedication to our program. I have been impressed by our high attendance during this past week with the further modified timetable because of Ramadan. We are approaching the homestretch, as it were, of the school year. Maintain focus and keep working hard!

I hope you all took advantage of the catch up day. I know I have seen several emails from teachers asking me to change attendance in ManageBac. Keep up the good work!!

If you have not completed the DIFI survey, please complete that by the end of the day on Thursday. Some of you have emailed saying there have been some challenges. Please copy the link and paste it into a new browser window. This has helped several people.

Today we did not have any new work posted but you have had the chance to catch up on any missing work. I hope you took advantage of the day.

We also had our Grade 7 awards assembly. It was great to see so many of you online today. Congratulations to those students who earned awards today.

I have emailed the link and code to complete the DIFI survey. Please make sure you complete this survey for Ms. Aristea and Ms. Laura. This should be completed by the end of the week.

Welcome to week 5 of online learning! Please make sure you have read the email about Ramadan hours and schedules. This will be our last week with this current schedule before we transition to Ramadan hours. Please let me know if you have question about the new schedule that was emailed to you this morning.

Thursday 16 April

You have made it through another week. WAY TO GO!! Make sure you watch the long-five chain video. It's awesome and not just because your Grade Level Leader is in the video.

I hope you enjoyed Family Day. I have seen some great pictures from the day and it looks like you enjoyed the day. Enjoy some more time with your family this weekend. Play some more games, get outside and enjoy the weather. Most importantly, disconnect from technology for a bit.

Tuesday 14 April

Tomorrow is Family Day! In the Panther's Roar, sent out today, there is a document attached listing several activities to do as a family. Don't forget to take pictures of the fun you have with your family and upload them on to ManageBac. There is a task posted on the calendar, click on the task and a dropbox has been created for you to insert your pictures. Enjoy the day with your family!!

Monday 13 April

A few reminders as we continue in Week 4 of online learning.

You have 24 hours to complete your assignments. After you have completed the assignment, turn it in and email the subject teacher.
All of your work will be posted by 7am. You can look at the tasks before your assigned class time.
Participate in the GoToMeetings. (Remember this is the new platform we are using.) These meetings are a change for your to see your teacher and some classmates but most importantly, this is a chance for you to ask questions about the work that has been assigned.
As your Grade Level Leader, I am always here to support you and help you in any way that I can. If you are having problems or concerns about your work, I will ALWAYS ask you , FIRST, if you have asked the subject teacher.
Don't forget to attend your Homeroom! The Homeroom teachers miss you and want to take some time to chat with you also.

Welcome to another week of learning. We had our best attendance as a Grade Level on Thursday! You all seem to be getting into a routine with online learning.

There will be NO online classes on Wednesday because it is Family Fun day. Please take time to enjoy playing some games and having fun with your family.

I hope you took some time to enjoy the weekend. It is getting hotter every day so enjoy the cool evenings while it lasts! Just to remind you:

All of your assignments will be posted by 7 am. You will then have 24 hours to complete the work. If you have not turned in the work by 7 am the following day, you will be marked absent for the class.
When you receive an email from Ms. Sarah about being absent from class, please follow up by emailing the subject teacher for the classes you did not submit work. If/When you turn in the work, your absent will be changed to present.
Please make sure you are asking for help when you need it. Ms. Sarah, Ms. Laura, Ms. Manal, Ms. Hamida and Ms. Suzanne are all people you could call upon for help.
There have been some changes to our schedule. I sent out an email last week but I am including a copy of your new schedule here for you. Email your Homeroom teacher or Ms. Sarah if you have questions.

You are still expected to follow the Code of Care while participating in Zoom classes as well as in your Google Classrooms.
You have 24 hours to complete your work. All assignments are posted at 7 am and are expected to be submitted by 7 am the following day.
If you are having problems with Zoom or difficulty understanding your work, email the subject teacher.

Welcome to another week of online learning. We were very successful last week. It was wonderful to see attendance increase throughout the week. The Homeroom teachers will be making contact, if they have not all already, with parents to discuss how things are going. Please share the positives as well as concerns you may have. A survey will be sent out for students at the end of the week to get some additional feedback.

Thursday 12 March - Day 1

You have successfully completed your first 3 days of online learning!! We are all still learning about how this works but THANK YOU for being active and engaged your classes.

Here is what is happening in some of the MYP2 classes right now:

Language and Literature: Students in MYP 2 English Language & Literature just completed their unit on poetry. Students analyzed poetry and discussed how the use of figurative language influences meaning. As we move into our next unit, students will be doing a novel study and exploring themes of courage and friendship through the book Freak the Mighty. Students will also be exploring character development, plot structure, and applying their learning of figurative language to a novel.

Arabic: The current unit encourages students to inquire into language and how it is used around us. Students are looking at how the media has the ability to communicate locally and internationally, and to use persuasive language to influence people.

PHE: Students are learning about joints. After watching a video, MYP2 students were asked to think about what they watched an answer some questions. Thank you for your active engagement.

Welcome back from a restful Spring Break. I hope you had a chance to relax and enjoy time with your families. Everyday, I will post what happened in Grade 7. Remember, you have until 7 am tomorrow to complete the work that has been assigned today. Refer to ManageBac if there are any questions.

Attendace still matters so make sure you are completing the work that has been prepared. If you are absent for 3 or more lessons a day, I will send an email/make a phone call. If the absences continue, Ms. Leona will begin making phone calls. Similar to if we were actually on campus, if you are ill, please send me a doctors note, so we can mark your attendance correctly.

Wednesday 11th March (Day 8)

General Learning Update for today from your Grade Level Leader:

Congratulations on completing a full day of online learning. I am sure you may have found some things challenging while others may have been easy. I have heard great feedback about most of our Grade 7 students logging into ManageBac and completing their classroom tasks. Remember to follow the directions from your teacher to be marked as present in your class.

You may have noticed a 10 minute break in between classes. Please use this time to get up, stretch your legs and take care of yourself. If you are being invited to Zoom with your teacher, make sure you are dressed for learning. I would also suggest creating a learning space somewhere in your home that is NOT your bedroom.

At this time, please do not worry about checking in with your Homeroom teachers at the beginning of the day. As teachers, we are using this time to make sure we are ready to help you with your learning for the day. However, during your Homeroom block today, you are expected to continue your work with Callido.

Daily Learning Update from each Subject Teacher

Ms. Ayan's Science class began a new unit on force and motion. The class is beginning to explore their current understanding and to dive deeper into their learning. Most of the students were active and were participating with the learning. Please submit the assignment that was given. Also, make sure you are emailing if you have questions or are having difficulty joining the class.

Mr. Nik's Grade 7 Design class continued working on developing ideas for their paper engineering (pop-up book) product. The class is in the process of mapping of a children's story in which they will create an interactive storybook for our younger learners in QAS. Today in-class, students were expected to share progress on their storyboards, which will facilitate Grade 7 designers in the "making" part of this unit.

I hope you all enjoyed our first day of continuous learning using our online systems. Over the next few days you will see some videos, ZOOM invitations and assignments posted in your groups.

For the next two days, your teachers will be available for real-time communication between 7:30-1:00. This means that you will receive assignments from all of your teachers using the time table below.

Attendance is being monitored. You must interact with all of your classes to be marked present.
These days DO count as part of your school attendance and you are required to engaged and interact with every class.
