As we now engage in week two of our distance learning experience we do hope that you are beginning to adjust to our current reality and settling into your new routines. QA Sidra Assessment

Our teaching team continues to assess student learning. Evidence of learning and student outcomes is gathered through the formative assessment and completed learning engagements that students upload each day. This information will inform each child’s semester two report. If you or your child need support to ensure that evidence of their learning is uploaded please contact your homeroom teacher for help. External Assessments

Due to the current situation a number of external assessments that occur at QA Sidra have been cancelled for this school year

• IB Diploma Grade 12 2020 Examinations Cancelled

• Measure of Academic Progress Fall Assessment Grade 2 - 9 Cancelled

At this stage the Grade 10 MYP E-assessments are proceeding as scheduled.

Dear Parents,

Prior to the break, we initiated our continuous learning programme to ensure that our students maintain their learning and growth whilst face to face classes are suspended due to COVID-19.

We know that this is a challenging time for many of our families, students and teachers. We understand that as parents you will be working to re-establish home routines and trying to balance your own work responsibilities whilst supporting your children’s learning. Therefore to support you and your children our aim is to try and ensure that the information we share is clear and consistent across all grade levels.

Parent Check-In

To help support you as we begin our continuous learning programme each of our homeroom teachers will reach out to invite you to an online check-in between Tuesday 24 - Thursday 26 March. This is a great opportunity to ask questions and seek clarifications. Look out for your invitation.

This is a unique time where our young people will develop approaches to learning skills such as self-management and media literacy skills that will be invaluable in their continued journey as learners. We thank you for your ongoing support of your child and our teaching team as we ensure your child is actively engaged in learning and working towards maintaining growth as a learner.

Parent Update - 14 March 2020

Dear Parents,

Last week we initiated our continuous learning programme to ensure that our students maintain their learning whilst face to face classes are suspended due to COVID-19. The first three days were by most accounts successful. The feedback we received from students, parents and teachers over the first three days has led to reflections on practice and identified the need for greater clarity, more simplicity and more consistency in communication across grades and classes. We look forward to sharing with you clear information later in the week in preparation for our return from the March break.

Over this weekend there were messages circulated locally that all distance learning in Qatar was to be suspended. I am happy to report that our continuous learning programme will continue as planned. Whilst our teachers and staff will be working remotely you can be assured that our team will ensure that our students continue to engage in high quality learning experiences and continue to have scheduled opportunities to engage in ‘real-time’ with their teachers and peers.

We know that the continuous learning programme requires a large adjustment for our teachers and for our families. We are confident that together we will successfully re-establish routines for your children.

بدأنا في الأسبوع الماضي برنامج التعلم المستمر عن بعد لدينا للتأكد من أن طلابنا يحافظون على تعليمهم أثناء تعليق الفصول وجهًا لوجه بسبب COVID-19. كانت الأيام الثلاثة الأولى ناجحة بمعظم الحسابات. أدت التعليقات التي تلقيناها من الطلاب وأولياء الأمور والمعلمين خلال الأيام الثلاثة الأولى إلى التفكير في الممارسة وتحديد الحاجة إلى مزيد من الوضوح والبساطة والمزيد من الاتساق في التواصل عبر المراحل والفصول الدراسية. نتطلع إلى مشاركة معلومات واضحة معك في وقت لاحق من الأسبوع استعدادًا لعودتنا من عطلة مارس.

Parent Update - 09 March 2020

Dear Parents,

At QA Sidra our students’ wellbeing comes first. This means, with the current global situation, that we have a robust online learning plan to ensure the continuity of your child’s learning during a school closure. We are sure that your children have already shared with you that they have engaged in practice sessions at school.

As you are aware that from tomorrow (10th March 2020) all schools in Qatar will be closed indefinitely. Therefore we will be moving into our continuous online learning plan as of 10 March 2020 at 9.30am

What does it mean if online learning starts on Tuesday 10th March at 9.30am?

• Your child will need to log into their online learning platform SeeSaw/ ManageBac and follow the instructions from their teacher.

The following expectations will help your children to be successful.

Students

• Establish daily routines for engaging in the learning experiences

• Identify a comfortable, quiet space in your home where you can work effectively and successfully.

• Regularly monitor Seesaw/ Managebac to check for learning tasks and feedback from your teachers.

• Complete assignments with integrity and academic honesty, doing your best learning.

• Meet commitments and due dates.

• Communicate proactively with your teachers if you cannot meet deadlines or require additional support.

• Collaborate and support your QAS peers in your learning, where possible.

• Comply with QAS’s Responsible Use Policy, including expectations for online etiquette.

• Proactively seek out and communicate with other adults at QAS as different needs arise.

Families

• Create opportunities for your child to interact with peers to maintain connections with their school community.

• Establish routines and expectations.

• Monitor communications from your child's teacher.

• Take an active role in helping your child process their learning.

• Establish times for quiet and reflection and provide time for your child to have ownership over their own use of time and activity.

• Encourage physical activity and/or exercise.

• Be mindful of your child’s wellbeing; speak to them regularly about concerns or challenges.

• Monitor how much time your child is spending online.

• Communicate concerns or questions with the teacher via email.

Parent Update - 08 March 2020

Dear Parents,

You will by now have read the announcement that all schools and universities in Qatar will close for an indefinite period from tomorrow, Tuesday, 10 March. Our first concern is for the safety and wellbeing of our students and their families, and that includes access to education for our children as well as protection from potential infection.

Schools have been planning for this possibility and arrangements are in place to support your child’s education at a distance. Online learning systems are available and have been practiced, and learning materials have been developed to support children at home. With your support to make sure they use their time appropriately and productively, we can make sure their education is maintained. The detail of arrangements will be worked out over the next few days and communicated separately, directly from your child’s school.

If you are planning to travel over the Spring Break, may I respectfully suggest you review the latest travel information and advice, and consider the possible implications should you or a member of your family fall ill, or the status of travel restrictions relating to your journey be revised.

School staff will continue to work as normal and be available to support as necessary.
