Table of Contents:
Best Practices for Seminar Participation
Here are some helpful tips to make seminar a great experience.
Make sure you have reliable high-speed internet. Check your network speed at Speedtest.
Use headphones with a built-in microphone instead of the speakers on your computer to prevent voice echo.
Mute your microphone when you are not talking to prevent background noise during the seminar.
Be mindful of your appearance, actions, and background when your webcam is active.
Use a virtual background to hide your surroundings with an image.
Participate respectfully as seminars are recorded and the recording may include anything you share with your webcam, audio, and text chat during the session.
Review the Student Code of Conduct and Netiquette outlined in all course syllabi for additional information on course interaction.
Accessing Seminar
The following instructions provide details on accessing seminar sessions in the Brightspace course.
Access Seminar from the More Tools Menu
Select the Seminar item from the More Tools Menu in the Brightspace course.
The list of future seminar sessions will display on the Upcoming Meetings tab.
Click the join button to the right of the seminar session you wish to enter.
The “Open Zoom Meetings” application link will appear in a popup window. Students should use the Zoom Client application for the best experience. More information about downloading the Zoom Client application is available. Alternatively, the link to join from the browser will appear at the bottom of the page.
Joining a Zoom Seminar Meeting by Phone
To ensure the best possible experience for all students, Purdue Global highly recommends that students join the seminar meetings from their computers instead of by phone. When joining from your computer, you will have access to all of the features the seminar offers, including video and audio, screen sharing, chat, and breakout rooms.
Note: Joining a seminar by phone may prevent you from participating in the seminar session and fulfilling seminar grading requirements. As such, you may need to complete an alternative activity to earn points. Please reach out to your instructor if you need to join a session by phone without accessing the seminar using the Zoom client app or web browser.
Seminar Sessions on the Course Calendar Widget
Clicking on the seminar session from the calendar widget on the course homepage will open the item providing additional details about the session, if available.
With the calendar item open, students can click on the join link to access the seminar session.
