Is Kaltura ADA-compliant? 

Kaltura is an ADA-compliant tool as long as captioning is provided. 

My sound is not clear; how do I troubleshoot? 

You should always wear a headset when recording in Kaltura. 

Do I need a webcam?

Yes, You must have a webcam and microphone working with your computer. Review your computer documentation to find the system settings for microphone level and control of the webcam.

What happens if a student or faculty has issues with the Kaltura video?

What are the WCAG 2.1 requirements for video caption accuracy?

The Described and Captioned Media Program (DCMP) from the National Association of the Deaf and the US Department of Education has a Captioning Key that you can review for guidance on captioning. 

Which browsers are supported by Kaltura?

Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Android, and iOS can be used.

Can I record a browser window? 

Kaltura allows you to record the whole screen or select a section of the screen to record. To record a browser window, choose Screen > Select Area and then drag the area over to the window you want to record and resize it to fit the window

Is there a mobile app for Kaltura? Will students be able to view Kaltura videos from their mobile devices?

Kaltura is mobile-compatible and will play on mobile devices.

What if I click on a link while recording in a Select Area and it opens in a different area of the screen or opens a new app? 

You can drag and drop the information into the recording area and Kaltura will capture it.

Will students who are using company/military servers be able to view Kaltura videos?

Yes, anyone with access to the Brightspace course should be able to view the Kaltura videos.

What do I do if my camera does not work and I am using a Mac computer?

You can verify your Camera setting for Mac by accessing System Preferences > Security and Privacy > Privacy > Camera and ensure the browser you are using is checked to allow the app to access your camera.

I am experiencing issues with YouTube videos and Kaltura.

There is a known issue with some versions of Chrome and Kaltura. You may experience issues like the spinner hanging when trying to pull up a preview of the video. Clicking pause by the scrubber and then clicking play should unfreeze the process. You may also try using a different browser.

How do I add/edit captions to my Kaltura video?

Review the Captions and Transcripts section of the guide for step-by-step instructions on adding and editing captions. 

How long will it take for Kaltura to add captions to my video?

It depends on the length of the video. Usually, a 15-minute video is completed within 1 hour. 

Can we request captions in multiple languages? 

Captions can only be provided in the language used for the video. Source media language options are English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Dutch, and Portuguese.

If I download a video that has captions, do the captions remain with the video?

When a Kaltura video that contains captioning is downloaded, the captions are not included with the download. However, you can download the captioning file separately by going to the edit page for the video.

What is the best process for recording and sharing a Kaltura video? 

Can make videos from my smartphone?

You can if you are doing a webcam recording. Screen recording is not supported at this time on a smartphone.

Can I import videos I already have into Kaltura?

Yes. To import videos, go to Add New and select Media Upload. All common video, audio, and image formats are accepted. 

How should I dress to be on camera?

Business Casual is the required dress -  a nice shirt or top. A Purdue Global T-shirt is also an option. 

What about my background for the camera?

Your home office is the best place to record a video so that the background in the camera view is limited and the environment is professional, free of distractions,  and noise free. Take the wall décor behind you into consideration.  The lighting should be bright, but if you are near a window, the blinds should be closed.

Where can I post Kaltura videos? 

Depending on the Assignment, Kaltura videos can be loaded to Discussion Post, Assignment Submission folders and or within quizzes. 

Can I edit Kaltura or Kaltura Express videos? 

Yes, videos in both tools can be edited. 

How long does it take for the recorded video to be available for viewing? 

For short videos, it takes a few minutes. Longer videos will take a little longer. 

Where do I locate my recorded videos?

Click on More Tools > My Media to access all of the video files you have created.

Can I share a link to my videos via email? If so, how?

No, videos cannot be shared by email.

How do I delete videos that I no longer want to use? 

To delete a video that you no longer want on your media space, click on the trash can icon on the right side of the page, next to the edit button. 

Can I annotate videos in Kaltura? 

Yes. There is a pencil icon to the right of the microphone in the recording pane. You can click on the pencil to access the annotation features. 

What devices can I use to make Kaltura videos? 

Kaltura can be used on desktop computers and laptops (PC or Mac). Please refer to the Technology Requirements for hardware requirements at Purdue Global. 

Do I need to write a script before I record a video in Kaltura? 

A script should be written. Scripted videos enhance quality and optimize time. 

How long should my video be? 

Keep your videos short, 5-10 minutes at the most. The required length will vary by course.
