Pt England has a very strong culture of self review that includes staff, parents, guardians, students, BOT, CoL Schools, Researchers and Manaiakalani partners.
We frequently use the PMI framework for our review (Plus, Minus, Interesting) and these reflections are collected together on a separate website so that there is ease of collation and overview.
Back in 2010, we decided to cease publishing Annual Report Books, (which we did make public) and replace this work with a Report that was promoted publicly online. This idea was and is, in line with the Manaiakalani Learn, Create, Share pedagogy and is another way of sharing our learning and creativity. This approach was deemed a success by all concerned so along with our Board of Trustees, we continue using this mode. We hope you, (the reader) enjoy browsing our self review, and find this format pleasing to use and experience.
Our school currently enjoys a "Strong ERO Review" based on our own strong self review and ERO's view of our sustainable performance. This position is greatly assisted by Manaiakalani and the Woolf Fisher Research Centre who support our review, research and development.
We have held termly meetings with the Maori, Samoan, Tongan, Niuean, Cook Is, Fijian, European and Asia-Pacific communities through the Families @ Pt England Programme. We have used these meetings to consult on areas of compliance and strategic planning as well as issues of interest to parents and community. Some examples are:
We have continued to have very happy meetings with lots of good ideas being put forward by our parents and some very good debate. Our annual consultation meeting was held on 27/11/19.
Its very pleasing to report that we continue to have steady emerging trends in Reading, Writing and Maths and we are clear about the need to implement the recommendations of the Woolf Fisher Research Centre along with our own co-constructed analysis and synthesis.
We are pleased to report that we achieved positive improvement in our subject of focus for 2019, Mathematics, whilst holding our position and progress profile in Writing and Reading. Our goal remains, to get sharp acceleration in all three, and to see school wide performance improvement in all three, but we are pleased to have seen improvement in one without having gone backwards in the other two.
In order to improve three subjects at once, we have agreed that we will continue the focus on practices that lie behind successful learning and teaching in Reading, Writing and Mathematics. These are:
The Manaiakalani Kahui Ako has also agreed to focus on:
Our cluster of 13 Manaiakalani schools has continued to share and moderate data across schools and a great deal of robust knowledge and information comes out of this sharing and discussion and out of the Teacher Inquiries into Practice.
We have continued working with Woolf Fisher Research Centre and are looking forward to our 8th annual milestone report on academic progress and improvement.
During 2019, we have had effective Principal and Lead Teacher Meetings as well as Manaiakalani Board Forums and day long Hui and Wananga. These have all helped us to have effective self review. We have held regular meetings with Academics including Dr Rebecca Jesson, Dr Aaron Wilson, Dr Jannie van Hees and the DMiC Team. These people have all contributed to the development and increased understanding of Learn Create Share and have enabled us to evolve this pedagogy as an effective framework for improving equity, excellence, wellbeing and cultural responsiveness.
Our Board has been refreshed during the year, via the BOT Elections and we are blessed to have yet another great Board of Trustees. Board Members have engaged enthusiastically in training supplied by School Trustees Association and have this to be very valuable.
Our Boards has held effective, purposeful and harmonious Board Meetings. Well done all!
Our BOT is to be congratulated for helping navigate the school through a really outstanding ERO Review.
This Board continues to support the Manaiakalani Programme and its Outreach and has continued to show great manaaki to other schools and organisations in this community, across New Zealand and into the International Community.
Thanks BOT.
