The Performing Arts plays a large part in Pt England culture. As in the past, there were numerous opportunities for every student to be involved in thespian activities through out the year. These included:
1) Class contributions to PENN (school TV channel)
2) School Ambassadors presenting to visitors to the school and to student teachers at Auckland University College of Education and MIT
3) School Prefects' contributions to the weekly korero in School Assemblies
4) Occasional class "specials" in Friday Assembly
5) Cultural groups celebrating their Language Weeks
6) Students acting in movies for the annual Manaiakalani Film Festival
7) Kapa Haka groups who often performed at corporate events
8) Prize Giving Team performances
9) Biannual School Production: "The Toy Shop on Zipzap Avenue"
10) Performing Arts school wide topic theme in Term 4: "Life's a Stage"
Once again each class and the Extension groups produced a 3min movie with students involved in script writing, videography, acting, editing and post production which included two presenters from each group who introduced their movie to the audience at the festival. The 27 movies were of a very high standard. The students really get a thrill seeing their hard work come to life on the Mega-screen at the Sylvia Park cinema complex. The film festival culminated once again with an evening showcase and screening of a selection of the students movies from across the cluster. The evening is always hugely popular with the students' families and friends.
This year we revisited an updated version of one of our own shows from 10 yrs ago. It was a highly successful event that was well attended by audiences over three nights, in the last week of Term 3, with a full house on the last night. Over 60 students enthusiastically displayed their wonderful acting, singing and dancing talents. Also students designed and drew the digital backdrop, controlled the stage lighting, operated the computer controlled images and backing sound tracks and helped as assistant stage managers. A couple of the troop, on their own initiative, even held dance tutorials for the younger dancers struggling to learn the moves.
