For this project, I created a lampshade for my old ikea night light which I don't use much anymore. I used grapefruit and dry them in the oven as my citrus material.
I spliced white cloth and organza to form this lampshade. For the pattern on the lampshade, I used dry grapefruit slices dipped in different shades of orange acrylic paint (The colors are base on the skin of grapefruit in different degree of dryness.) and printed them on the fabric. Two types of fabric create a sense of layering and contrast. And the style of the lampshade tends to be simple and elegant.
I also used line to connect one piece of grapefruit slice as the flame. If you move the lamp, the "flame" will flutter and it contains the smells of grapefruit.
I made this out of the box piece with my group. We decided to create a experience of sitting beside the bonfire a rain in the night. And we made this head-wear installation.
For the smells, we create the rain note by puting wet dirt and leaves into the vodk and the smke note by burning incense in a box that contains cottons.
