For my very first project I decided to dehydrate orange slices in the oven and create it into a bouquet of "flowers". Because everyone loves flowers and the way they smell, I decided to replicate that same effect of a bouquet of oranges that smell just as pleasant as a bouquet of flowers.
For this project I wanted to create the mystery and intensity of finding something with messages in the middle of the forest. Rather than the item being a box or inside a box, I made a fortune paper to be the “box” the user finds. The fortune paper has smile directions that send the user to their next fate. At the end of the day, I want this project to be a “take it as you will”. Not everyone is superstitious about what they find and the situation they are put in, but some are and I wanted to put that to the test through his project. Which one of my classmates will take the fortune paper as it is and which will allow the fortune paper to determine their destiny. As for the scents, I dropped a single drop of every scent I believe to represent the emotion one would feel while reading their fortune. For example, I dropped smoke into the “help me.” as both the phrase and scent sends an alert to the brain to help and be worried. Another example is, resinous to the “run” portion as to me, the smell of “I’m in danger” is closest to the intensity resinous scent has.
For this project, my group and I recreated the emotion of ambiguity. We wanted to create a visual representation of what it could feel like to not fully understand someone. This project was interactive and allowed a couple classmates to go under the fabric and experience one's "emotions" from the inside while others looked into the "emotions" from the outside. The lights represented thoughts and feelings trying to escape the bubble of emotions in hopes to be better understood.
Everyday sounds turned into a childhood memory when your mom and/or grandma was cooking in the kitchen.
I created a mesh see-through mask for people who have fear of bad breath. I personally am always anxious about my breath smelling bad and I wanted to create a slight solution to this constant anxiety. My idea of creating the mask using mesh was to give the user the ability to show off their smile and be heard more clearly as normal masks don’t allow us to do so. The importance of emotion expression is being delivered through this mask as it is see-through. I also wanted to incorporate my self-made mint scented oil to the mask so it gives the illusion of the user’s breath to smell like mint. The whole idea was instead of smelling your own morning or coffee breath throughout the day, you smell the greens and mint scented oils I added to the mask while being able to show off your smile.
With the images, I hung the mask where my boyfriend and I always hang our masks when in come back home. It’s right by our door and hangs with our keys. I thought it would be cute to just hang the mask I created casually on the key holders to give that “i wear this every day effect”.

Images in the folder represent broken traditions. As I was talking to my dad, he mentioned that most rituals have been stopped as it broke many families, religions, etc apart. I wanted to represent that idea of a country’s tradition being broken because of its own ritual practices. I also wanted to bring in the aspect of food being rotten as many families would spend a lot of money on preparing the table, but letting the majority of the food purchased go to waste. Although some families ate the food, other families would leave the displayed food out for days. As for my scent, I mixed both sweet and smoke, which are two polar opposite scents to create the scent of clashing-ness. As for my light element, inside the cracked glass is a candle and once lit, not for long, the light remains, but after a while the light is gone to show that life is quick and praying on ancestors doesn’t do much if you don’t live your own life.

For my sanctuary project I decided to create a lamp that reflected a poem by D. H Lawrence. "At The Window" is a beautiful poem that wraps both living and non-living together making them close to having human qualities. I cut off each letter in the handmade paper lamp and placed a lighting under it to create a shadow of letters. I also added an element to the piece that carried the scent I created.
