As a media producer, a good problem log is crucial to keeping track of issues that arise during production. It allows me to quickly identify and resolve problems, ensuring that the final product is of high quality. By logging problems as they occur, I can also analyse them to prevent similar issues from happening in the future. This level of professionalism not only improves the quality of the final piece but also makes the production process smoother and more efficient.
02 ARENA - No release forms
As I was preparing to film cello coaching his big fight at the Indigo sector of the 02 arena, I realised that there had been a communication breakdown, which meant that I was unable to obtain the necessary signed release forms. This was a huge disappointment for me, as I had envisioned this moment to be the climax of my piece. However, I didn't let this setback deter me from completing my project.
Instead, I came up with a backup plan which involved filming the silver boxing awards that the Duke of Edinburgh group was going to complete. I saw this as an opportunity to highlight the achievements of these young boxers, who had worked hard to earn their awards. I felt that this would make for a great finale to my piece and still allow me to capture the essence of the boxing community that I was exploring.
Despite the initial disappointment, I remained optimistic and focused on finding an alternative solution. I knew that I needed to adapt to the situation at hand and find a way to move forward. This experience taught me the importance of having contingency plans and being able to think on my feet in order to overcome challenges and obstacles that may arise during a project.
In the end, the silver boxing awards ceremony proved to be a fitting end to my project. It not only showcased the achievements of the Duke of Edinburgh group, but also demonstrated the resilience and determination of the boxing community in the face of adversity.
ACTOR - No time available through march
I feel like it's essential to have a good working relationship with your cast and crew, and that includes being able to work around their schedules. Unfortunately, one of the challenges I faced during this project was the limited availability of Cello, who played a crucial role in the film.
Cello was not just any actor; he was the face of Boxing Futures, and his work as a full-time employee for the organisation meant that his schedule was jam-packed. As expected, it was challenging to find the time to film with him, and we had to work around his busy schedule.
One of the biggest challenges we faced was his limited availability throughout March, which made it almost impossible to film at times. Given how important Cello was to the project, we had to come up with a solution that would work for everyone.
After discussing it with Cello, we decided to postpone filming until April, which gave us the opportunity to do some test shots in March. Although it wasn't the original plan, it worked out in the end, and I was able to use that time to hone my craft and perfect my vision for the project.
INTERVIEW - No extra SD card
I must admit that the final interview with Cello was a bit of a disaster due to a major oversight on our part. We completely forgot to bring an extra SD card for the interview, which was going to be the backbone of the entire piece. It was a critical mistake that left us in a tight spot as we only had a limited amount of time with Cello, who is always in high demand due to his work with boxing futures.
Given the importance of the interview, we had to quickly come up with a plan to salvage the situation. We knew that we couldn't afford to waste any of Cello's precious time, so we had to blitz through the most important segments as quickly as possible while still getting the necessary information and soundbites that we needed for the piece. It was a stressful and chaotic experience, but we managed to get through it in the end.
Although it was disappointing to have to rush through such a crucial part of the project, I'm proud of how we managed to adapt to the situation and make the most of the time we had left with Cello. It was a lesson learned for the future, and we made sure to double and triple check all of our equipment and supplies before any subsequent interviews to avoid such a mistake from happening again.
DVD UPLOADING - DVD's from 2003
When we first encountered the issue of the old DVD footage of Cello's old fights being recorded on outdated DVD's, we knew that it would take some time to get them on the computer. We spent many hours researching different methods to transfer the footage and finally settled on a convoluted solution. We uploaded the DVD's to a Google Drive folder and downloaded them onto the computer. Then, we used an encoder to convert the footage into a format that was readable by Premiere Pro, but unfortunately, the footage had no audio. Despite this setback, we were determined to make it work and went ahead to export the footage as a .mp4 file via Premiere Pro. This process was not easy, but we were able to successfully get the footage onto our editing software and use it to create a compelling story for the project.
ADOBE PREMIERE PRO - Crashing/Errors
During the course of this project, I encountered a number of issues with Adobe Premiere Pro which proved to be quite frustrating. Despite its reputation for errors and crashes, the sheer number of issues I experienced was overwhelming. Some of the issues included HDD/SSD freezing, constant crashing, playback freezing, rendered footage not playing correctly, lagging on playback, and error messages constantly popping up requiring me to restart my computer. I also faced issues with disconnecting the Google Drive from my computer every time I launched Premiere Pro. These issues disrupted my workflow and made it difficult to stay on track with the project.
Although I managed to work around some of the issues by switching to my home computer, others continued to plague me until the very end. In light of these issues, I have decided to explore other editing software such as DaVinci Resolve after completing this project. Despite the setbacks, I remained determined to complete this project to the best of my ability and deliver a final product that would make Cello proud.
