A treatment is a written outline of a creative project that serves as a guide for its development and execution. It provides a clear description of the project's concept, themes, characters, story, visual style, and technical requirements. Treatments are important because they help to communicate the project's vision to stakeholders and ensure that everyone is on the same page before production begins. They also help to secure funding, provide a roadmap for the production process, and serve as a reference for the creative team during development and production.
Act 1 - Who is Cello?:
As the documentary starts with a compilation of Cello's previous fights, the audience will feel a sense of anticipation and excitement. The roaring of the crowd and the sound of punches being thrown will create a visceral response in the viewer, setting the tone for what's to come. This footage will be presented as high-quality, cinematic DVD footage, immersing the audience in the world of boxing and creating a sense of grandeur around Cello's past achievements.
As the title "Cello" slowly fades in, the audience will feel a sense of reverence and respect for the boxer. This will quickly snap to black, leaving the audience in suspense before revealing a cinematic close-up of Cello's eye. This close-up will be intense and emotive, conveying the seriousness and dedication of the boxer. It will then cut to a wide shot of Cello sitting in the ring, as he starts talking about his life and motto. The audience will feel drawn in by his words, and will start to develop an emotional connection to him as a person, not just a boxer.
Then having it cut to a montage of Cello's daily morning routine will be presented in a way that showcases the discipline and hard work required to be a successful boxer. The use of slow-motion shots and dramatic music will emphasise the physicality of his training and the mental focus.
Cello starts talking about their life and experiences, allowing the audience to get a glimpse into their personal world and understand their motivations. The film then showcases a series of shots of Cello running, emphasising the physical and mental struggle they face. The running sequence builds up to a dramatic push in shot of Cello standing in front of the gym as the door open, with the climax of the hook happening in this moment.
The opening act of the film takes inspiration from the iconic film "Rocky", using a similar structure to build up tension and introduce the protagonist to the audience. This style of treatment sets the tone for the rest of the film, drawing the audience in and creating a strong emotional connection with the protagonist, ensuring they will be invested in the story and invested in the character's journey.Â
Act 2 - What is boxing futures?:
As the audience, I want to take you on a journey through the life of Cello "Dangerous" Renda, not just as a former boxing champion, but as a man who has found a new purpose in life. In this next act, we will be following Cello's day-to-day routine as he works for the charity of boxing futures, helping young people with both becoming professionals and overcoming their own personal challenges.
The camera will be used to create a sense of intimacy as we follow Cello throughout his day. We will see him interacting with his co-workers, his students, and the young people he is helping, showing us the passion and dedication he has for his work. The use of close-up shots of his face and body language will help us to understand and empathise with him on a deeper level.
Visual effects can be used to create a sense of hope and optimism. As we see the young people that Cello is helping, we can use overlays and transitions to show their transformation from struggling to thriving. This will make the audience feel a sense of pride and satisfaction in knowing that Cello is making a real difference in people's lives.
As we hear Cello's voiceover, we will gain a deeper understanding of his thoughts and feelings about his work. His words will be honest and authentic, helping the audience to connect with him and his mission. We will feel his passion for boxing and his desire to pass on his knowledge to the next generation.
Throughout the documentary, the camera and visual effects will be used to create a sense of contrast between Cello's life as a boxer and his life now as a coach. This will make the audience appreciate the sacrifices and challenges he has faced in order to achieve his goals. We will feel a sense of admiration for his resilience and determination.
Act 3 - What makes boxing futures special?:
In this act, we'll shift our focus to the boxing futures organisation as a whole, highlighting the incredible work that they do to make a positive impact in people's lives. Through a combination of interviews and footage, we'll showcase the impact of the organisation on its members, and how it has become a second home to many.
To capture the emotional essence of the organisation, we can utilise the power of testimonials and interviews with members who have benefited from the charity. This can help convey the message that this organisation isn't just about boxing, but also about providing a sense of community, support and belonging. Through close-ups and reaction shots, we can showcase the emotional reactions of these members as they recount their stories, their personal struggles and the role that the charity has played in their lives.
To bring a sense of authenticity to these interviews, we can also incorporate background footage of boxing futures' events and activities, showing how members work and interact with each other. This will add a layer of visual depth and context to the interviews and testimonials, which can help the audience connect with the organisation and its members on a deeper level.
Finally, by interviewing staff members and showing their interactions with the members, we can add a sense of validation and authority to the documentary. Their insight can help illustrate the scope of the organisation's impact, and how Cello's leadership has helped foster a sense of family and support among its members. With the right combination of visual effects and emotional storytelling, we can create a powerful and uplifting documentary that showcases the importance of community and mentorship in our lives.
Act 4 - Residential:
As we move into the fourth act of our documentary, we shift our focus to the Duke of Edinburgh group, which is an integral part of the Boxing Futures organisation. This act will follow the group on their residential trip to Hunstanton, which is a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase the close-knit family environment that has been fostered by Cello "Dangerous" Renda, who is the coach and father figure of the group.
Through our footage, we will highlight the special bond that has been created between Cello, the group members, and Steph, the mental health counsellor. We will show how this bond has helped to make the group a family, united by their shared love for boxing and their commitment to improving their physical and mental health.
Our cameras will capture the group's journey through a 10-mile walk, night-time activities, and their travels, highlighting the teamwork and camaraderie that is at the core of the Boxing Futures ethos. We will also feature interviews with the group members, Cello, and Steph, where they share their personal stories and experiences of being part of the Duke of Edinburgh group.
Through our documentary, we want to evoke a sense of warmth, community, and togetherness. We want our audience to feel like they are part of the group, sharing in their journey and experiences. We want them to feel inspired by the positivity and resilience of the group members, who have overcome challenges and obstacles to get to where they are today.
Our documentary will also showcase the incredible work that Boxing Futures is doing to support young people's mental and physical health. We want our audience to feel motivated to support organisations like Boxing Futures, which are making a real difference in their communities.
As we progress through this act, we will see a shift from Cello's story to the group's story. We will highlight how Cello's efforts have gone a long way in creating a supportive and nurturing environment for the group, where they can grow and thrive. We hope that by the end of this act, our audience will feel like they have been on a journey with the Duke of Edinburgh group and Boxing Futures, and that they have been inspired to make positive changes in their own lives and communities.
Act 5 - Silver boxing award:
As we approach the final climax of our documentary, we are treated to the culmination of Cello "Dangerous" Renda's story. Our cameras follow him as he prepares to coach a fighter in the upcoming Bare Knuckle Boxing fight at the 02 Indigo Arena, showcasing his skills not just as a boxing coach but also as a teacher. Through a dynamic montage, we highlight Cello's coaching and leadership abilities, showing how he has persevered through thick and thin to achieve his dreams.
However, while the fight is a significant milestone in Cello's career, we know that it may not always go as planned. That's why we have decided on a back up plan have the climax be more of a fatherly moment between him & the Duke of Edinburgh's Silver Boxing Awards, where we will showcase the strength of Cello as a coach and leader. This will be the ultimate climax of our documentary, as we see the group that we have followed throughout the film achieve their next level of success.
Through our footage of the Silver Boxing Awards ceremony, we will show the pride and joy on Cello's face as his group members receive their awards. We will highlight the progress that they have made and the obstacles that they have overcome, all thanks to Cello's unwavering support and guidance.
This part of the documentary is a bittersweet moment that captures the essence of the entire story. We see the group of young people who have been working with Cello for months now, proudly holding their silver boxing awards. The camera zooms in on their faces, and we can see the sense of accomplishment and pride radiating from them.
Cello stands next to them, mimicking the speech he gave at the beginning of the documentary as a voice over. He thanks the viewers for watching and expresses his gratitude for being able to work with such an amazing group of young people. His voice is filled with emotion, as he talks about the uncertainty of the future and where it will take him as a person, but how he will always be proud of the work he has done with his groups.
The next scene shows Cello looking off into the distance, lost in thought. The music swells, and his voice-over continues as we watch the group hug each other and celebrate their achievements. The scene is emotional, and we can feel a sense of closure as the story comes to an end.
The final shot is of Cello walking away from the group, his back to the camera. The music fades out, and we are left with the sound of his footsteps echoing in the distance. The screen goes black, and we are left to contemplate the impact that Cello has had on the lives of these young people and the legacy he will leave behind.
