As a media producer, idea generation is crucial to creating a successful and professional piece. It allows me to explore a variety of creative avenues and come up with unique and innovative concepts. By generating a range of ideas, I can identify the most effective and engaging approach to tell the story and captivate my audience. This process also enables me to anticipate and address any potential issues or limitations before production begins, resulting in a more efficient and effective use of resources. Ultimately, thorough idea generation sets the foundation for a high-quality and professional end product.
This initial idea is of a short film which will revolve around being 10-15 minute long, it does not have a conclusive premise as of yet but there are a number of ideas which I do wish to include. One of these ideas for the short film is to experiment heavily with colour grading & LUTs to create a jarring atmosphere, similar to Channel 4's Utopia.
This untitled short film will be similar in tonal direction and colour to this show & I will use similar colours and try to replicate the atmosphere, to create a jarring and investing piece. Though I am not to sure on the finer details of what will be included within the piece, I do wish to do a more physiological and uneasy piece, my main goal for this piece is to truely making an investing piece which is unsettling and makes the audience uncomfortable to a family friendly degree.
This idea is to do with my paranormal and scary story fascination, the concept of it is that I would get in contact with a local paranormal expert and go visit some haunted local experts. Interviews and POV views will be part of it, we'd go to different locations whilst talking about their previous stories and listen to some of the experiences they've had.
Some of the people I could contact, could include:
https://www.cambridgeghosthunters.co.uk/
https://paranormaleyeuk.co.uk/peterborough-ghost-hunts
Using resources to source locations like:
This will be a very personal documentary working alongside a wildlife photographer within the local area, following along closely with what they do on a day to day basis, very much like a "day in a life of" videos, where it follows an expert in the field documenting everything they do on a day to day basis.
One of the most prominent people who I can get in touch with this would be:
https://www.willnicholls.co.uk/
Someone which I have already done a case study on and would love to get know much more.
This would be very similar to the documentary feel you would get on a TV, but having a more personal feel of it, similar to that of a YouTube video but still having that professional feel to it. For this documentary I would get in contact with orgs & events based around the UK, seeing if they would be willing to allow me to record a documentary based on their event. eSports being Electronic Sports, such as gaming tournaments, my plan would be to go for a week to work closely with the teams behind the orgs, seeing how and what it takes for an eSports org to run.
People to look into would be:
This would involve me planning a week long trip to an abroad country, similar to that of a vlog but setting myself the challenge of making the stay the cheapest possible trip whilst still exploring the culture and having a great time with the locals. This would show parts of the culture that people don't always get to see and allow me to explore & others to learn about how cheaply you can have a good time with others.
Similarly structured like my Initial Idea #2, using that environment to make an unsettling atmosphere & working with that to make a unfamiliar situation. Though uncertainty with whether it will be just the campfire scene or whether I will work with the people telling the stories themselves to make a recreated scenario with them as the main actor, will be decided via a poll to help perceive the interest.
This will be a fully recorded trek into a mountain, which will be made out to be lost footage. This would be similar to that of the Blair Witch Project, where you would not exactly see the issue but it will be acted as getting more and more into mayhem & chaos, seeing the downfall of the human psychology.
This would be a documentary, similar to my last one but much more in depth to the history, with more research and contact with individuals who have done documentaries before & talk more personally to get to know the interviewee's. Kritzkast is part of the original TF2 podcast community, having someone who has/had connections with them before, using my networking.
From the Dark Knight ARG to Overwatch's Sombra ARG, augmented reality games have a large place within the media industry. This would be a much more analytical piece, showcasing why and how ARG should and could be used for more user interaction and allowing for more people to raise interest for a piece. I would select one ARG to use as my case study for the piece & then do a compare & contrast with it.
A completely branded, self-profitable podcast which focuses on what the two hosts have learnt in the prior week, whether this be a random fact about some subject we may be interested in which would be interesting to tell and explain for other or may it be a shoot/camera technique we may have learnt and done that week. The show would mainly focus on the two hosts, allowing for people to learnt more random or useful information for comedy or factual purposes, allowing for short episodes every other week. This would allow me to showcase that I can plan a weekly event, time keep & allow for a constant scheduling of a business practice and showing my consistency within myself to show that I can follow through with ideas and am not a quitter. If the host would be myself, it would also allow for me to showcase my evolving skillset with the occasional bringing up of media techniques I may have learnt, but also allowing showing that I am always willing to evolve & learnt new things, showcasing my willingness to go beyond my comfort to explore new things I may not have explored normally.
A side tangent may be that it can also be recorded in video to allow for me to upload it to multiple platforms, this can also show my lighting, sound design and visual skills that I have at my disposal. As well as showcasing my editing & time keeping with having a specific time of upload.
This would be an information heavy piece of media, the medium is undecided as of now, but it would explore the concept of liminal spaces & explore how it has influenced different pieces of media & culture surrounding it. As liminal spaces technically both exist but also don't, I would have look more into 3D modeling & how to animate in a 3D space to help replicate the feel of a liminal space.
This would be a quite entertaining product to make, allowing for me to explore some more creative mediums. This would be a script completely created from a AI generated prompt, with little to no script doctoring, every decision and edit would be made by the AI. These decision would include, the setting, the characters & backstories, the plot & twists which would happen from a singular prompt. This would not only prove to be challenging, but also allow for me to prove that no matter what I am handed, I can always complete a product to the best of my abilities from whatever I may be handed.
This would be a short film similar to the Safdie brother's "Heaven Know's What", which would focus primarily on someone of interest from Peterborough. The story of Heaven know's what is about a person struggling with addiction and the struggles surrounding that & homelessness. The actress was actually the person that the story is originally based on, with Safdie brothers stating that, "Who better to play the role & show how they felt, other than the person who went through it all?".
I would love to do a case study on the Safdie brother's and take their mindset into my own film.
The concept is very similar to the movie by the name of 1914, with the whole premise being a one shot continuous piece, allowing for the viewer to be involved more into the movie. This would be accompanied by the view of the movie being in a POV format, similarly done like Hardcore Henry, but instead of made to be an action piece, it would be more of a psychological horror with a sense of mystery. I would love to explore more of a horror/mystery short film idea, the concept I have right now if a very confusing piece which you never see who the POV is from or who is chasing the main character, leaving a sort of ambiguity for the viewers. This would be shot at nighttime or in a darker setting, with a unique colour palette.
For this idea I would do a photo shoot weekly with planning, allowing me to produce very in-depth photography portfolio with expansive ideas & photo shoots.
Highly productive based game show with class based competition to the end year, but allows me to showcase how I would work around making a live performance and produce it under the concept of live practice.
Using Team Fortress 2 as a case study and comparing and contrasting against different pieces of media within the game community, these would talk about games which have had longevity within the gaming industry & how certain games have managed to stay relevant with just the help of a constant community support and outreach. This would be very similar to the YouTube "Funke" with the way the produce documentaries on games but also inspired by such productions as as "The Smash Brothers", using them as my main research & using my resources to connect with people from the communities for their input.
Geoguessr is something I am very much interested in, particularly the way competitive people have found ways to tell exactly where in the world you are. I would spend the time making a documentary style video with a case study into GeoWizard (Youtuber), who bought Geoguessr into the mainstream. I would then go more over the current competitive scenes, from how there are tournaments going on with what is essentially google streetview.
This would be a deep dive analysis into the cultural impact of the Rick Roll phenomenon, where it came from, the first documented use of the "rick roll" as a joke. Exploring the cultural impact which has happened on the internet & why it became such a global phenomenon.
Self explorative piece of media, which would explore my growth over the past years. Showcasing how I have changed and going through my work and reenacting it with new and improved knowledge over documentation.
Using the recent boom in boxing within the YouTube sphere, I would want to capitalise on this by talking about the boxing opportunities which can be found within Peterborough. With this, I would get in contact with Chello from Boxing Future's & other management of that problem, as they work with youth groups and duke of Edenborough. Using Boxing Future's as a base for making a documentary based factual piece around the availability of young people activities.
