This document is going to follow the B1 brief which was handed out on the 16-09-22, going through each paragraph in-depth and talking about each detail about the document. This analysis would include an overview of each section for what I must do to achieve a distinction in all the areas of the B1 project. Not only was this important that I put maximum effort into this piece, not just for my course but also, more importantly for my future & taking the time to learn where I wished to be heading for that.
“You may be a year away from finishing the course, but it’s vital that you consider your future career and options for progression.”
Though this opinion statement may not add a lot to what we may be doing in the B1, it does show the duality of our situation as students & how we only have such a short period of time before we’re thrown out into the world with little knowledge of how to promote ourselves. But this B1 is perfect for that and a very smart way to make the other students understand that, if they do understand it.
“A personal brand identity is essential in order to be a successful creative professional. You are required to put together materials to promote yourself to employers, clients and/or universities and should explore a range of career opportunities, produce valuable materials and demonstrate specialist skills relating to your goals for personal progression.”
This is about selling yourself in the best way possible, whilst making eye candy and presenting yourself in a professional way. All coming together, in our website, this is where it all comes to fruition. Making a brand for oneself, helping promote our future business, whatever career we wish to go into. This does not solely extend to just the website, but into making online presence such as a linkedin or instagram to promote my work visually.
“This will include a portfolio website, which is expected to be presented in an engaging format that clearly records your progress and development as a media practitioner, while also illustrating your creative strengths and skills.”
This is to showcase yourself for prospective employers, keeping it presentable with clear thought processes shown throughout our work. Whilst doing this, I will need to showcase both my positives in my work & showcasing my skills, with explanation of how I am planning to keep up my current skill set & future skills.
“Alongside the website, you will present a separate body of work that includes a personal statement highlighting your creative ability. You will conduct research into HE (Higher Education) and career aspirations, write a CV, outline the production of your website portfolio, produce promotional materials, and prepare notes showing areas for your development and future planning.”
This is where the bulk of the writing will come from, this is the most important part for our future careers. This is the most important piece of our futures & B1 as a whole, allowing us to research for our futures and to let others know what we wish to go into and let them KNOW what we know.
“Finally, you will also showcase your professional use of social media, including LinkedIn (mandatory) and others appropriate to you, such as relevant social media and video platforms.”
This is to create a brand image & professional image for us, allowing for our future employers to see a good professional image. LinkedIn is the most important piece of social media, allowing for others to see our work & interests on a personal level.
“Inform Ideas for Progression into a Creative Career. Use of research and critical analysis skills to inform ideas for career progression opportunities and understanding of the industry. This should include researching working professionals, job adverts, career profiles, businesses, universities and social media networking, to help inform how you intend to prepare for your own progression.”
This is where I should fully indepth research what I want to do for my future, looking into different careers & jobs I would want to go into & individuals (preferably a UK based individual in recent years)
“Apply Problem Solving Practice to Develop a Strategy for Career Progression.Show development of advanced methods for problem solving to develop your career progression strategy. This should include identifying your career aspirations and the skills required in order to get there, while also establishing short, medium and long-term progression aims. You will also establish contacts, particularly through social media networking. You should keep a running production log to show how you have investigated career progression.”
This indicates that we need to research what ways & strategies for what our next plan of action after college is. This indicates that we need to make a one year plan, five year plan & ten year plan. Researching many avenues for the career I've researched and what one I am going to go into, whether I might need a separate career/course/degree if I wish to work in that industry. Another big thing about this is researching into networking, how & why you should do something.
“Create Materials for Career Progression Using Technical Practice Show development of advanced and specialist technical skills for personal progression. This is the practical part of the assessment, where you should create your materials, including a portfolio website, your CV, your personal statement and your social media accounts (including LinkedIn and others). Throughout each, you need to be mindful of your personal brand identity, the form and style of each type of material, and the creative layout of each. You should also consider ongoing maintenance and development of your website.”
After identifying the career paths & what I am going to do, with a thorough knowledge of the industry. So this is where I would try and sell myself as practically as possible, as concise and straight to the point as possible. Identifying what is most important & showcasing to the employer what exactly they might want, showing the best of the best. This may also in clude technical logs?
“Demonstrate Professional Practice and Behaviours in Relation to Career Progression Aspirations Show development of specialist and strategic approaches and professional behaviours for your career progression. This should include taking ownership of your project and self-direction through the production of each task. It will also include the way you have organised your work, both with the website and the production of the other career materials. The way you engage with and approach potential employers will also be monitored.”
Presentation & Organisation of all the production materials & Website. Approaching individuals in the industry, maybe with interviews.
“Explore and Develop Communication Skills Show development of further skills and considered approaches to communication of meaning, purpose and function of work, and the presentation of work in the context of industry expectations, using personal communication skills. This will be assessed through the manner in which you have presented your work and professional profiles, both in the form of the website, but also with the other career progression materials. With this, you should be able to see cross-platform promotions that show clearly that each piece of work belongs to the same person; for example, in the way that it has been designed and its tone of voice. It will also be assessed through personal communication skills evidenced through engagement with employers.”
This can be with summary or evaluations, for each of the folders. Interviews would work well with people in the industry. Also needing consistency between professional and tonal of each piece of material.
“Project Expectations - This project will help you to understand your potential future in the film, TV, and creative media industries; where will it take you? And, how will you get there? This is surmised through research and through the production of your own personal career progression materials, so it’s vitally important that you engage in the holistic nature of the work that has been set. Use your research, to inform and progress your plans. It is clearly personal to you; to your goals, your aims and where you want to go. It is therefore important that you develop your own style, through trialling and testing of materials (for example, with font choices, colour use and design styles). Ultimately, this is the place to showcase what you can do!”
This is all about making your site, yours. Making your work personal to you & your style. Which, if you're reading this, I hope you can see that I have done that.
“A production log that shows your work throughout this assessment. This is really vital for the assessment of the B1.2 (Problem Solving) as it enables us to see how you have made changes to your work, as you have done it. Set this document up FIRST and then make sure that you regularly update it.”
Production log, this is pretty much what we should be doing with each little project or big project, it is key to work on one of these as both a summary of our days in case we forget to mention them in our research.
“Identify careers in the creative media industries, and highlight your intended career goals/position.”
This is where I will expand on my ideals for my end goal with my position I wish to go into, which can of course change, with life being as fluid as it is. Though this will only be a rough 1 year, 5 year and 10 year plan, outlining a rough idea of where I wish to be in 30 years.
“Evidence of researching materials created by other media professionals in your chosen area/sector, such as their websites, LinkedIn pages and social media platforms.”
Primarily research for case studies & website creation for future media usage, for advertising for professionality.
“Evidence of researching companies and organisations in the part of the industry that is of most interest to you for a future career.”
Case studies of companies & organisations to help expand future plans.
“Evidence of researching job adverts, job sites and/or the UCAS process, including courses at universities and their pros/cons.”
Provide information about research into university & give valid reasons why you don't wish to, researching into why you think you don't wish to go to uni and what are the pros and cons for yourself.
“A personal statement (500 words) for UCAS and/or employment opportunities, and a CV set-up an intended future career path.”
Identify the job position & write them a letter about working alongside them. UCAS as well, even if you don't wish to go.
“A personal portfolio website. This can be designed using Google Sites, Wix.com, or WordPress.com, and it should include examples of your work uploaded in a manner that you see fit to best show off your potential. Websites are used by media practitioners to make them more employable and to act as a place to be contacted.”
This is the google sites website which is being used to showcase both our & portfolio.
“A career plan, including your career aspirations and the skills required to get there. It also should include short, medium and long-term progression aims.”
A fluid & lenient plan which includes: 1 year plan, 5 year plan and 10 year plan, this should contain the progression from start to end goal of my career, how I can achieve it and what I need to do to achieve it.
“Evidence of setting up social media profiles; LinkedIn is mandatory for all, but other social platforms (such as Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, Vimeo etc) are up to you, with a consideration for their appropriateness to you.”
Setting up professional and relevant media profiles which showcase my work & allow for appropriate networking opportunities.
“Evidence of engaging with employers. You will be partly assessed on this by your tutor and how they see you engage with employers, but evidence of an external engagement (such as work experience, discussions, mentoring, etc) is very useful.”
Showcasing the ability of reaching out, interviewing a few individuals about their relevant careers to mine. As well as going to networking events and picking up future networking opportunities.
