VINYL CUTTING PROJECT
Students will be making a Vinyl Decal Cutout using the programs AutoCAD and Adobe Illustrator. The MAXIMUM SIZE that students can do is 5" Tall x 21" Wide. You may do any text in Illustrator on the Desktop Computer.
DESIGNING
Students can do a variety of designs, but they CANNOT DO ANY TRADEMARKS or COMPANY LOGOS!
--When creating your vinyl, You will need to think about what areas you want to "Save" and what you want to "Throw Out".
--The vinyl cutter is a small automated knife that cuts on ALL drawn lines. You should do images or text that creates a "bubble letter" type object.
--Make sure all of your lines are AT LEAST 0.1" away from one another. Anything closer may not cut out properly or may be very difficult to clean up.
--Use as much of the 5"x21" space as possible.
--Save your AutoCAD file as a 2018 DWG first. Then, save it as a 2007 DWG when ready to import it to Illustrator.
-->Create an Illustrator file with the UNITS set to INCHES. This should be 21" wide by 5" tall.
-->File then PLACE your 2007 DWG version of the file into Illustrator. You may SCALE TO FIT ARTBOARD or you may bring it in as the ORIGINAL SIZE in INCHES.
-->All text MUST be BUBBLE type letters or it WILL NOT WORK!!!! Just because the text is available in Illustrator does not mean that it will work for the vinyl cutter!! NOTES: If you are doing thinner bubble letters, you might want to make it the bold style of that font. It is recommended that all text is 1" or taller. If you do too small of text, it may not be easy to remove parts.
--All unwanted areas of the vinyl will be removed BY HAND. Mr. Birno will try to help with this, but if it is too complex for you to clean up, you might want a different image. Ask Mr. Birno if there are any concerns.
