Group Artist Statement

Our project incorporates our admiration for dystopian elements with the issues revolving around the homes of birds to showcase the impact of the environments involving a bird housing crisis and humans being used as meals. This is different from other previous projects in which we show an impact rather than coming up with a solution, a dystopia helps show the impact better than other genres. We also collectively have an interest in dystopias and decided to build up from that. 

The majority of our group have experience making films and short skits, so we decided to go with a short film about the birds from the Bird Lab and Ken's interview. Script writing was the most infuriating part of the process but fun as we snuck in some bird facts to bring the bird world to life. Our film was heavily influenced by TV Shows such as “BoJack Horseman” and “Tuca and Birdie”. The characters highlight the film by how unique each of them is in design, personality, and species. 

The end is an unconscious expression: put some people in a room, ask them to create an art piece. Their art will be about their environment. What did we learn from this? What were we trying to do or say? We weren't trying to make a grand statement. The conclusion is the consistency; the same theme stayed throughout every project this unit and was built up with ideas from the whole team. The film is where we all are.

Miles Neighbors: Art and Design major, and also someone who favors process over outcome.

Alice Belone:  Graphic Design Major and has a deep love for her culture and identity as a Navajo (Dine) woman.

Lizzet Cruz Jose:  A proud Latina who has a passion for writing and can often be found reading or sleeping. 

Thatcher Hess: Art Practice major with too many influences.

Chloe Sandvick: Engineering major who spends too much time reading and daydreaming about comics.
