GROUP ARTIST STATEMENT: 

Our collaborative work brings together film and special effects with the awareness of the impacts of feeding birds to explore what it means to ethically feed them. 

We used prosthetics, various personal items such as clothing, popcorn, and makeup, an iPhone, found audio, and Premiere Pro. 

When making decisions about the project, we found it important that everyone be heard and involved. Each of us found both familiar and foreign practices within this project. In this way, we challenged ourselves to grow and lean on each other‘s skills throughout the process. 

Inspired by the iconic PSAs of the 80’s, we borrowed from them the element of surprise. The text at the end of the video best reflects our desire to illuminate what it takes to ethically feed wild birds. We want audiences to rethink the way they “help” wild animals and to be mindful of the harmful consequences good intentions can have.

Jessica Antunez Garza

I am an ant. Far away, ants are cute! Up close, ants are cute! You know what else is cute... failing.  You know what's cuter... failing again! We are small specs in the grand scheme of things, and yet we continue to fail and thrive. Cuteness is endering. It is endering to keep trying. Ants are small beings, we see their challenges and efforts to overcome them, as cute. I am small, a workaholic, and love learning from failure. I am an ant. To be an ant is to try and to have a community that tries with you. We owe it to each other to keep trying.

SaraBo Kirkham 

I am a woman of the wind and sky. A woman who loves to stop and smell the flowers. I hear a call and I must answer, weather that be from nature or creation. I am a lover, who likes to watch the world grow up. I am a healer and a listener, I am a cooker and baker, and I am a sharer. I love having the opportunity to grow, learn, create, and love.  I hope to keep sharing that love with the world because I am a member of earth. 

Eliana Williams

I'm a storyteller. Everything that I do is to create a story and convey a message, wither it's through acting, directing, painting or whatever else. It is what I believe what I'm meant to do in this life.
