GROUP ARTIST STATEMENT:
Visual mediums are often the most optimal way to communicate educational concepts and ideas, complex or otherwise. Finding an engaging way to understand things is difficult, but comics are an extremely captivating way of conveying things to a wide range of audiences. We wanted to use this to our advantage in the creation of our zine.
While our initial notion was to create a very surface level, informational piece with all of our collaborations going into one string of the concepts we have learned about birds in these few weeks, we found that it would be far more entertaining if we created a series of short stories that were inspired by our learning journey. Our zine Anthology; "Little birds shorts" is a compilation of comics we created individually. Our materials ranged from digital mediums, physical, and even a mix of the two. Regardless of material, we all collectively created our own interpretations of what stood out to us in learning about birds.
Art and science are impactful coordinators when it comes to learning, it extends into our current focus on birds. Through art and storytelling with absurd and inherently comedic narratives in nature, we believe we can more easily teach about the technical aspects of birds and bird experimentation.
