ADMISSION CRITERIA
LESSON PLAN
Medical Terminology is a competitive knowledge based event that tests the ability of members to identify, spell and define various components of medical terms commonly used within health professions and health specialties. This event involves different systems (i.e. cardiovascular, reproductive, endocrine etc.) within the human body along with their associated diseases and prevention methods. Medical Terminology provides members with the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills regarding prefixes, suffixes, roots and anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology and occupations related to the health field.
It consists of a one round competition system in which competitors are required to answer 100 multiple choice and 20 tiebreaker questions within a time span of 90 minutes. The following is a breakdown of how much of each topic will be in the SLC written exam, as indicated by the HOSA Guidelines:
Roots, Prefixes, Suffixes, and Combining Forms (45%)
Overview of Body (5%)
Skeletal (5%)
Muscular (5%)
Respiratory (5%)
Digestive (5%)
Cardiovascular & Lymphatic (5%)
Nervous/Special Senses (5%)
Endocrine (5%)
Reproductive (5%)
Integumentary (5%)
Urinary (5%)
To ensure your success, there will be required readings provided as well as a lot of memorization. Be prepared for each lesson which will be held once every week. For more information, ask your event coordinator.
