About Medical Math
Medical Math integrates the Ontario curriculum with applied mathematics in medicine. This event is suitable for students with a strong mathematics background. But, expect to memorize formulas and unit conversions.
This written knowledge event will involve 50 questions and 10 tiebreaker questions. Below is a test breakdown from the HOSA Medical Math Guidelines.
5% - Mathematical Essentials
20% - Measurement and conversion problems
35% - Drug dosages and IV solutions
25% - Dilutions, solutions, and concentrations
15% - Interpreting medical information (charts, graphs, tables, basic statistics, etc.)
Medical Math is therefore useful for those interested in pursuing a career in the health sciences, whether that is as a doctor, a nurse, or a researcher.
Medical Math is also good preparation for your school classes. A significant portion of the content overlaps with that in the following courses:
Chemistry (SCH3U),
Functions (MCR3U),
Data Management (MDM4U).
