This exhibition builds upon the "Photography Room" from the 2023 Open House Exhibition, which explored Bhavnagar’s photographic history through its studios, local photographers, and family collections. The exhibit introduced the audience to the photographers within the Pattani family and their role in documenting family and social life. Now, this Photography Exhibition extends the narrative by focusing on Kalpana Bhatt’s collection—bringing personal histories to light and deepening our understanding of photography’s role in preserving heritage of people, places and their practices. 

અનેક અનોખી તસ્વીરોથી ભાવનગર શહેરનો ઇતિહાસ વધુ ઉજાગર કરવાનું કાર્ય 2023 ઓપન હાઉસ પ્રદર્શન  અંતર્ગત ‘ફોટોગ્રાફી રૂમ' ને લઇને થયું. સ્ટુડિયો, શહેરના તસવીરકારો અને પારિવારિક સંગ્રહ થકી આ શક્ય બન્યું. આ પ્રદર્શન નિહાળવા આવેલ પ્રેક્ષકોને પટ્ટણી પરિવારના ફોટોગ્રાફેરોનો પરિચય પણ થયો, જેમણે પરિવારનું સામાજિક અને વ્યક્તિગત જીવન સૂચિબદ્ધ કરવામાં ફાળો આપ્યો. આ ફોટોગ્રાફી પ્રદર્શન તેમાં ઉમેરો કરતાં, કલ્પના ભટ્ટનો સંગ્રહ આપની સમક્ષ પ્રસ્તુત કરી રહ્યા છીએ. આ સંગ્રહથી પરિવારનો ઇતિહાસ વધુ સારી રીતે સમજી શકાશે અને આપણા વારસાને જાળવવામાં તસ્વીરોનો મહત્વનો ફાળો પણ જોઈ શકાશે. કલ્પના ભટ્ટનો સંગ્રહ - વ્યક્તિગત ઇતિહાસને પ્રકાશમાં લાવે છે અને લોકો, સ્થળો અને તેમની પ્રથાઓના વારસાને જાળવવામાં ફોટોગ્રાફીની ભૂમિકા વિશેની આપણી સમજને વધુ ઊંડી બનાવે છે.

Kalpana Bhatt is not just a collector but a preserver of time. She recognized the importance of these materials long before institutional archives took shape. Her personal engagement with photography adds a new dimension to this journey. As an individual who valued both capturing and preserving, her collection deepens our understanding of photography as an act of inheritance, remembrance, and   responsibility.   

From a young age, Kalpanaben was fascinated by the camera. Before she joined college, her father gifted her a camera—a treasured possession that allowed her to capture moments of joy and camaraderie. Many of her photographs reveal glimpses of her own world: carefree days with friends, playfully dressing up and posing on the terrace of their home, freezing in time the essence of youth and self-expression.

Her dedication challenges us to reflect: How many of us understand the significance of preserving family photographs? What is the role of analog vintage photographs in the era of selfies and digital photography?   

As you explore this collection, we invite you to reflect on the photographs in your own life and the stories they hold. 

Kalpana Bhatt’s archive reminds us that photographs are more than just images—they are traces of lived experiences, expressions of connection, and vessels of memory passed across generations.

કલ્પના ભટ્ટ માત્ર સંગ્રહ જ નથી કરતા, પણ જાણે સમયને સાચવી લે છે. પટ્ટણી આર્કાઇવ્સની શરૂઆતના પણ ઘણા સમય પહેલા તેમણે સંગ્રહિત વસ્તુઓનું મહત્વ સમજી લીધું હતું. એક તસ્વીરકાર તરીકે તેમણે આર્કાઇવ્સની સફરને એક નવી જ દિશા આપી. તસવીરો પાડવી અને સાચવવી, બંને કાર્ય તેઓ કરતા રહ્યા અને તેમના પ્રયત્નો થી વારસાની સમજ, જાળવણી અને યાદગીરી….આ બધું અમે સરળતાથી  સમજી શક્યા. 

કલ્પનાબેનને નાની ઉંમરથી જ કેમેરા તરફ આકર્ષણ હતું. કોલેજમાં જોડાયા તે પહેલા તેમના પિતાએ તેમને એક કેમેરો ભેટ કરેલો, જે તેમને માટે ખજાના સમો હતો. આ કેમેરામાં તેમણે ઘણી આનંદની અને મૈત્રીની પળો કંડારી હતી. મિત્રો સાથેના દિવસો, બાળ ઉત્સાહથી શણગાર કરીને ઘરની અગાશીએ ફોટા પડાવીને આનંદ કરવો.....આવી તો કેટલીય બાળપણ અને યુવાની ની ક્ષણો તસવીરોમાં કેદ થયેલી છે.

કલ્પનાબેનના આ સમર્પણથી એક વિચાર આપણને સ્ફુરવો જોઈએ…..પરિવારના સભ્યોની તસ્વીરો જાળવવાનો અર્થ આપણે સમજી શક્યા છીએ? આજના સેલ્ફી અને ડિજિટલ ફોટોગ્રાફી ના સમયમાં શું આપણે પુરાણી છબીઓને સાચવીને તેમનું મહત્વ સમજી શકીશું?

આ પ્રદર્શનની સફર કરતા કરતા વિચારો કે તમારા જીવનની અમૂલ્ય ક્ષણોની તસવીરો કેવી કેવી કથાનો ભંડાર સમાવીને બેઠી છે?  

કલ્પનાબેનનો સંગ્રહ એ વાતની પૂર્તિ કરે છે કે તસવીરો એ માત્ર છબી કે છાપ નથી; જીવેલી ક્ષણોની , બાંધેલા સંબંધોનો તથા મળેલા વારસા અને ઇતિહાસનું પ્રતીક અને પુરાવો  છે.
