When we first began in December 2020, we started with what seemed like a collection comprising a lakh papers, a few photographs, maps, and office records—but as we’ve continued to receive more collections, the sheer volume and diversity of materials and formats have not yet been fully comprehended. From handwritten letters, reports, and rare books to photographs, negatives, film reels, artworks, objects,  etc, the Pattani Archives now holds a wide range of archival materials, each carrying its own story. 

The scope of the archive spans from regional histories to subjects of national importance and international relations. The materials document the workings of the princely state of Bhavnagar, other Kathiawar states, the Bombay Presidency, the Indian independence movement, and more. 

Based on our preliminary review diverse subjects associated with this archive have been identified as photography, visual arts, typography, material culture, business history, political history, and cultural studies; and several more are likely to emerge as materials are reviewed and catalogued.  For now, we invite you to explore a selection of archival materials that reflect some of the key subjects identified in the collections so far. જ્યારે અમે પહેલી વાર ડિસેમ્બર-2020 શરૂઆત કરી, ત્યારે અમે લગભગ એક લાખ કાગળો, થોડા ફોટોગ્રાફ્સ, નક્શાઓ, અને ઓફિસ રેકોર્ડ્સથી કરી- પરંતુ જેમ જેમ અમે અમારા સંગ્રહના સ્તરો ખોલવાનું ચાલુ રાખ્યું છે, તેમ તેમ વિવિધ ફોર્મેટમાં સામગ્રીનો જથ્થો અમારી કલ્પનાથી ઘણો આગળ વધી ગયો છે. હસ્તલિખિત પત્રો અને પુસ્તકોથી લઈને ફોટોગ્રાફ્સ, નેગેટીવ્સ, પેન્ટિંગ્સ,  અને આર્કાઇવલ દસ્તાવેજો સુધી, પટ્ટણી આર્કાઇવ્સમાં વિવિધ પ્રકારની સામગ્રી છે, દરેક તેની પોતાની વાર્તા ધરાવે છે.

આ આર્કાઇવ્ઝનો વિસ્તાર પ્રાદેશિક ઇતિહાસથી લઈને રાષ્ટ્રીય મહત્વના વિષયો તેમજ આંતરરાષ્ટ્રીય સંબંધો સુધીનો છે. આ સામગ્રીમાં ભાવનગર રજવાડા, કાઠિયાવાડ ક્ષેત્રના અન્ય રજવાડા, બોમ્બે પ્રેસિડેન્સી, ભારતની સ્વતંત્રતા ચળવળ વગેરે સંબંધિત બાબતોનો સમાવેશ થાય છે. આ આર્કાઇવ્ઝ  સાથે સંબંધિત ઐતિહાસિક સામગ્રીના કેટલાક ભાગો લંડનની બ્રિટિશ લાઇબ્રેરી અને મહાત્મા ગાંધીના આર્કાઇવલ સંગ્રહમાં ઓળખવામાં આવ્યા છે.

અમારી પ્રારંભિક સમીક્ષાના આધારે, આ આર્કાઇવ સાથે સંકળાયેલા વિવિધ વિષયોને ફોટોગ્રાફી, વિઝ્યુઅલ કળા, ટાઇપોગ્રાફી, ભૌતિક સંસ્કૃતિ,  વ્યવસાયિક ઇતિહાસ, રાજકીય અને સાંસ્કૃતિક  ઇતિહાસ તરીકે ઓળખવામાં આવ્યા છે અને સામગ્રીની સમીક્ષા અને સૂચિબદ્ધ થતાં વધુ ઘણા ઉભરી આવવાની સંભાવના છે. હમણાં માટે, અમે તમને સંગ્રહોમાં અત્યાર સુધી ઓળખાયેલા કેટલાક મુખ્ય વિષયોને પ્રતિબિંબિત કરતી આર્કાઇવલ સામગ્રીનું અન્વેષણ કરવા માટે આમંત્રિત કરીએ છીએ. જો તમે આમાંથી કોઈપણ સંગ્રહ વિશે વધુ જાણવા માંગતા હો, તો તમે અમને pattaniarchives@gmail.com પર લખી શકો છો.                  

The collection of port and railway archives consists of a wide range of documents such as official correspondences, administrative records, reports, and telegrams, a variety of photographs, and unexplored photographic negatives, which may contain unseen visual documentation of historical significance.

અમારા આર્કાઇવ્સના સંગ્રહમાં બંદર અને રેલ્વેના અસંખ્ય સત્તાવાર પત્રવ્યવહાર, વહીવટી રેકોર્ડ અને ટેલિગ્રામ, વિવિધ પ્રકારના ફોટોગ્રાફ્સ અને અજ્ઞાત નેગેટિવ જેવા દસ્તાવેજોની વિશાળ શ્રેણીનો સમાવેશ થાય છે, જેમાં ઐતિહાસિક મહત્વના અદ્રશ્ય વિઝયુઅલ દસ્તાવેજો પણ હોઈ શકે છે.

This collection comprises a diverse array of photographs that capture significant cultural moments, including weddings, rituals, and other social events from Kathiawar region. While some photographs are clearly labeled or easily identifiable, many others lack detailed context and require further research to accurately determine their subject, locations, and historical associations.

આ સંગ્રહમાં લગ્ન, ધાર્મિક વિધિઓ અને અન્ય સામાજિક કાર્યક્રમો સહિત મહત્વપૂર્ણ સાંસ્કૃતિક ક્ષણોને કેદ કરતા વિવિધ પ્રકારના ફોટોગ્રાફ્સનો સમાવેશ થાય છે. જ્યારે કેટલાક ફોટોગ્રાફ્સ સ્પષ્ટ રીતે લેબલ કરેલા  છે, અથવા તે સરળતાથી ઓળખી શકાય તેવા છે, ત્યારે ઘણા ફોટોગ્રાફ્સમાં વિગતવાર સંદર્ભનો અભાવ છે અને તેમના વિષયો, સ્થાનો અને ઐતિહાસિક મહત્વને સચોટ રીતે નક્કી કરવા માટે વધુ સંશોધનની જરૂર પડે છે.

The Pattani Archives house a rich and diverse collection of archival materials, including photographs, artworks, and a wide range of documents reflecting the political and regional history of Bhavnagar and Kathiawar. Among these are rare and significant records such as photographs of Jawaharlal Nehru’s visit to Bhavnagar, Darbar Bank meetings, royal processions, and the Scout and Guide movements. The archives also preserve materials that highlight Sir Prabhashankar Pattani’s key initiatives—his pioneering Debt Redemption Scheme for farmers, his efforts to promote education for students, and his role in strengthening the banking system. Additionally, the collection captures Bhavnagar’s active trade and commerce networks facilitated through its port. A substantial number of photographs in this collection remain uncatalogued, still awaiting identification and research.

પટ્ટણી આર્કાઇવ્ઝમાં આર્કાઇવલ સામગ્રીનો સમૃદ્ધ અને વૈવિધ્યસભર સંગ્રહ છે, જેમાં ફોટોગ્રાફ્સ, કલાકૃતિઓ અને ભાવનગર અને કાઠિયાવાડના રાજકીય અને પ્રાદેશિક ઇતિહાસને પ્રતિબિંબિત કરતા દસ્તાવેજોની વિશાળ શ્રેણીનો સમાવેશ થાય છે. આમાં જવાહરલાલ નહેરુની ભાવનગરની  મુલાકાતના ફોટોગ્રાફ્સ, દરબાર બેંકની બેઠકો, શાહી સરઘસો અને સ્કાઉટ અને ગાઇડ ચળવળો જેવા દુર્લભ અને મહત્વપૂર્ણ રેકોર્ડ્સ નો સમાવેશ થાય છે. આર્કાઇવ્ઝમાં સર પ્રભાશંકર પટ્ટણીની મુખ્ય પહેલ - ખેડૂતો માટે તેમની અગ્રણી ઋણ નાબુદી યોજના, વિદ્યાર્થીઓ માટે શિક્ષણને પ્રોત્સાહન આપવાના તેમના પ્રયાસો અને બેંકિંગ સિસ્ટમને મજબૂત બનાવવામાં તેમની ભૂમિકા - પ્રકાશિત કરતી સામગ્રી પણ સાચવવામાં આવી છે. વધુમાં, આ સંગ્રહમાં ભાવનગરના સક્રિય વેપાર અને વાણિજ્ય નેટવર્કને તેના બંદર દ્વારા સુવિધા આપવામાં આવી છે તે દર્શાવવામાં આવ્યું છે. આ સંગ્રહમાં નોંધપાત્ર સંખ્યામાં ફોટોગ્રાફ્સ હજુ પણ અજ્ઞાત છે, જે હજુ ઓળખ અને સંશોધનની રાહ જોઈ રહ્યા છે.

This sub-collection presents a wide range of photographs and negatives documenting the journeys or expeditions undertaken by members of the Pattani family for personal reasons like leisure or education, as well as administrative purposes. These images offer glimpses into Pattani Family’s interests and relationships across different regions, nationally and internationally over the years.

આ પેટા-સંગ્રહમાં, અમે પટ્ટણી પરિવારના સભ્યો દ્વારા કરવામાં આવેલી યાત્રાઓનું દસ્તાવેજીકરણ કરતા ફોટોગ્રાફ્સ અને નેગેટિવ નો એક સંગ્રહ રજૂ કરીએ છીએ - રાજકીય, શૈક્ષણિક અને વહીવટી હેતુઓ દ્વારા સંચાલિત યાત્રાઓ. આ છબીઓ  પટ્ટણી પરિવારના સભ્યોની રુચિ વિશે તથા વર્ષોથી તેમના વિવિધ પ્રદેશો, રાષ્ટ્રીય અને આંતરરાષ્ટ્રીય સ્તરે સંબંધોની ઝલક આપે છે.
