Code.org
Coding is great to reinforce mathematical concepts like geometry, measurement, spatial sense, logical reasoning, and problem solving. Code.org offers a comprehensive programming curriculum that is self-directed. Great as a choice time activity, math station, Genius Hour option, or dedicated programming time activity!
Numeracy and Spatial Reasoning with Lightbot
Lightbot is a fun programming app available on student iPads. Students are challenged to navigate a series of mazes by writing programs. They practice their counting skills by determining the number of spaces to move, and develop spatial reasoning by deciding whether to turn right, left, up, or down.
CodeSpark Academy
CodeSpark Academy is an excellent app for building computer science fundamentals as well as reinforcing math skills like problem-solving, logical reasoning, and spatial sense. It is completely visual, so it is great for younger students.
Numeracy with Seesaw
Seesaw can be used to study numbers. Students can use the Draw, Photo, and Microphone features to show what they know, or teachers can push activities to their class to strategically target concepts. Check out these activity links for numbers lessons:
Counting with Scratch Jr.
Scratch Jr. is an easy-to-use programming app that is great for teaching coding, logical reasoning, sequencing, number sense, and more.
Scratch Jr. can be used for counting and number sense. By turning on the grid feature in Scratch Jr., students can program their characters to move vertically and horizontally in a precise manner.
TRIMESTER TWO
UNITS
- Place Value Concepts
- Place Value Situations
- Comparisons and Data
Data Study with Google Forms
Google Forms is an excellent way to conduct surveys, give quizzes, and generate student feedback. Create a QR code for your Form for easy access! Kids simply scan your QR code using the QR Scanner app on the iPad and are taken to the Form.
