Dictate text anywhere you can type using keyboard dictation. When activated, a microphone pops up, captures your speech and "types" what you say.

Click the Apple icon (upper left corner), System Preferences.

Click Keyboard.

Select the Dictation tab.

Click the Dictation: On radio button.

Choose Shortcut: Press Fn (Function) Key Twice (or choose your own shortcut).

Test the mic by speaking. The mic level will go up and down as you speak.

Quit System Preferences.

Using Dictation

Choose a field to add text.

Click fn key twice.

When you see the mic icon, speak in a clear voice. Refer to Voice Typing Picture Instructions to assist in student training.

Headphones/earbuds with mic are helpful in noisy environments.

  • Enunciate.

  • Add punctuation.

  • Practice (don't give up if it doesn't work right away).
