Speech Recognition

Dictate text anywhere you can type it using keyboard dictation. When activated, a microphone pops up, captures your speech and "types" what you say.

Setting Up Dictation

Go to Settings.

Tap General.

Scroll down and tap Keyboard.

Tap the Enable Dictation toggle to toggle it on.

Using Dictation

Tap a field to add text (example: an email, text message or browser address bar.

When the keyboard appears, tap the mic icon below the keyboard.

After the beep, start speaking in a clear voice. Refer to Voice Typing Picture Instructions to assist in student training.

Click the keyboard icon or anywhere on the screen to stop recording.

  • Think before you speak.

  • Enunciate.

  • Add punctuation.

  • Practice (don't give up if it doesn't work right away).
