Chiba University Moodle user should be a Chiba University’s identifying numbered student, faculty member, or researcher.
The number is simultaneously assigned for the user ID of the CU network systems administered by the Chiba University Digital Transformation Enhancement Council (CUDTEC)*1.
In addition, a course administrator (those who have a teacher role in the course) should be a faculty member or researcher (no matter full-time or part-time).
Courses with filled out pages on the Syllabus could be applied for opening a course in Moodle-system through the link on the Syllabus page. Please try the Syllabus page. The other courses are asked to contact Moodle Support (moodle-support◆chiba-u.jp; change “◆” to 1byte”@”).
Each course has its "Enrolment Key" for students to log-in at the first attendance. Reform the default "Enrolment Key" into unique ones and inform it to course belonging students. Furthermore while operating a course as the course administrator, handle any data with full attention to protect.
Each user is assigned a student role as the default role. With student roles users are only able to refer to pre-prepared contents of the course as editing is not permitted. However, when a faculty member requests to open a course a teacher role which enables editing only within the course will be assigned for the faculty member.
In addition, in the courses run by more than two members such as omnibus classes and experimental courses, the primary teacher who established the course should add the next teachers into teacher roles by himself/herself.*
*Since the 2024 academic year teacher roles have been able to reassign the roles of course members. Hence the reassigning service by Moodle Support has ended.
Courses from the past two academic years are available for viewing. Access is restricted to users who were registered in the past course as a "Teacher" role.
If a student requests access to a course taken in the previous year, it can be viewable by adjusting the display settings if the student is already registered in that course. For more details, please refer to the "Regarding Viewing Past Courses" page.
Starting from the 2026 academic year, we introduce Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for Moodle logins to enhance security. Authentication using both Knowledge (something you know) and Possession (something you have) will be mandatory. You will be required to authenticate using either "Email" or an "Authenticator App." For more details, please refer to "15. Introducing Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for Moodle" in the Table of Contents.
For incorrect settings by users or courses Smart Office may change them to ensure proper operation. In addition, Smart Office may limit access outside Chiba university or temporarily suspend the servers if further securities are demanded.
We may send out questionnaires about Moodle to users or use access logs to conduct surveys about its usage or enrollment of students. In addition, inquiry content may be used for improving support operations as well as for research and study purposes on the condition anonymized and statistically processed. If you do not consent to allow such use for research or study purposes, please let us know so we can exclude your information. We appreciate your understanding.
