14. Importing Contents Contents
Using the "Import" feature to reuse contents
"Import" is a feature to add the contents from other courses you are in as a teacher such as the course you taught in the last year to the same course currently in use. By importing, you can easily reuse contents from the previous year's course.
Content that can be imported includes sections and their resources as well as activities
A. Section
On the course home screen, import activities and resources such as assignments, quizzes, etc. in areas grouped by class times, units, etc.
B. Resources/activities
Refers to materials, assignments, videos, quizzes, etc. included in the course.
Student information and activity details are unavailable to import.
Enrolled student’s information and activity details (assignment files submitted, quiz results, forum posts and uploaded files, Wiki edits, etc.) are unavailable to import.
Importing is done in a new course to which you want to import sections from another course.
It is recommended to import at the start of a new year when you have not yet created any content for the course.
(1) Opening the “Import” screen
Method 1:
Click the “Open block drawer” then the "Import".
Method 2: Opening from course navigation
① Click "More" of the course navigation on the top of the screen.
② Click "Course Reuse" in the dropdown menu.
③ Click the appearing box to see the operational dropdown menu, and click "Import."
(2)Select the course to import
The "Find a course to import data from" screen is displayed.
Search the course by "Search courses."
When finding the course wishing to import data, click the "〇" at the head of the data, then click the "Continue" on the bottom.
(3)Select the items to import
The "Import settings" screen is displayed.
First to choose the items to import.
Basic items will have been selected with default settings. If you are not going to change permissions, blocks, or filters in previous years' courses, you do not need to make any changes.
Click "Next".
(4)Select the topics and activities/resources to import
A list of sections, activities and resources from the source course will be displayed.
All sections, activities, and resources from the source course will be shown selected. Uncheck any items that you do not need.
Be sure to uncheck “Announcements.”
*“Announcements” is the default for new courses and does not need to be imported. Please note that importing it will confuse students as to which announcements to check.
Click "Next".
(5)Confirm the choices you made and execute the import process.
The import settings specified in the above(2),(3),(4) will be displayed. Reconfirm the choices you made and, if no mischoices, click "Perform import."
If there are mischoices click "Previous" to correct it.
Make sure the items are correctly imported to the new course after importing. Please note that even if the other resources and activities are being added in the sections of the course, the imported items will not be overwritten or disappear.
When importing, the section of the prior year course from which you are importing will be imported into the section of the new course that corresponds to the location you are viewing. When migrating sections or activities/resources from the source to the destination, it is not possible to select the location from which you wish to migrate. (e.g., you cannot migrate the content of section #2 to section #1 at the import destination.)
Therefore, after performing the import operation, you must either start the edit mode and move the order section by section, or move multiple contents in a bulk operation.
In addition, section titles and summary text entered into the new course will remain unchanged and the original content in the new course will remain (neither overwritten nor appended).
On the other hand, the activities and resources from the importer will be added to the new course, so that the new course will show both what was originally in the new course and what was added from the importer.
Importing a course from last year into a course from this year
A. If you have changed the section name to “Guidance” in the current year's course, the section name “First Class” in last year's course will not be copied and will remain the same after import.
B. Resources and activities from last year's course will be added to this year's course after import.
C. “Guidance Materials” posted in the current year's course will not be overwritten and will remain posted after import.
D. If the section of this year's course is the unchanged default (“New Section”), last year's section name “Section 2” will be copied.
