Looking for something more exciting than your September photocopy queue? The September issue of the OAME Gazette & Abacus has you covered. The folks behind chatOAME have had a busy summer tuning OAME's AI service. First, its new colour scheme matches the upcoming new OAME website!   

Behind the scenes, the chatOAME service is better at finding Canadian and global real-world contexts, connecting lessons to Ontario curriculum (in Engish, French and student-friendly language), and suggesting relevant OAME journal articles, CBC/Radio-Canada news reports, podcast episodes, or Ontario College of Teachers' library resources after a chat, so a teacher exploring proportional reasoning, financial literacy, or classroom discourse can better trust the responses they're receiving from the service. 

chatOAME's new Worksheet mode offers a large variety of well-developed question formats.  Answers and worked solutions are automaticlaly provided, and both student and teacher handouts are prepared for Word, GoogleDoc & PowerPoint all with editable mathematics!, along with Kahoot, Wayground and other downloadable formats.

Coming soon!  chatOAME has catalogued Nelson's Edwin Elementary content, so you will be able to develop based on one of Edwin's Days of content by name (it will automatically reference Edwin activities & expectations); it will also pull in CEMC courseware content (see below) to provide additional Ontario-centric support.

What is OAMETalks? It's a place to hear the voices from the OAME conference!  The main part will be in the form of webinar versions of some of the popular sessions from the previous year's conference. These webinars will be available exclusively to OAME members only (however, this year our first session TONIGHT! will be open to all). They will be available live (mostly) on the second Wednesday of the month and then will be archived and available from the OAME website. The other part will be in the form of a podcast. This podcast will be a short conversation with each of our webinar presenters to get a preview of what their session will be about. Mark your calendars for next summer! BTC27 Canada is coming to Toronto for a three-day Building Thinking Classrooms event bringing educators together to learn, collaborate, and celebrate thinking classrooms.

Hosted by SWOAME and ISOMA (chapters of OAME), BTC27 Canada will welcome Dr. Peter Liljedahl, featured speakers, and educators from across teaching subjects and roles. The conference will highlight the uniqueness of Canadian classrooms while bringing diverse voices together to deepen and extend the Building Thinking Classrooms conversation.

The pre-conference and conference will take place at Havergal College from Sunday, August 22 to Tuesday, August 24, 2027, with evening social activities also being planned.

The 2026 Canadian Mathematical Society MathEd Meeting is back for its third year. Designed to bring mathematics educators together for engaging ideas, thoughtful discussion, and fresh perspectives on teaching and learning, the meeting will feature plenary talks and presentations on a variety of themes in mathematics education, with plenty of time for conversation and sharing. This year’s plenary speakers are France Caron (Université de Montréal) and Tyler Holden (University of Toronto Mississauga). Whether you are looking for new ideas to bring into your classroom, interested in current thinking in mathematics education, or simply want to connect with fellow educators, this is an accessible professional-learning opportunity you can join from anywhere. The meeting takes place Friday, November 27, from 5:00–8:00 p.m. EST, and Saturday, November 28, from 11:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. EST. From CEMC: Over the last few years, we have received requests from teachers to expand our resources to help support Grade 4, 5, 6 mathematics classrooms. We've heard you and are excited to announce that the CEMC's Grade 4/5/6 Mathematics Courseware is now live on our website and is available free of charge, with no registration required.

Waterloo Courseware 4-5-6 

Designed with long-term impact in mind, the elementary courseware supports students across Grades 4, 5, and 6 with age-appropriate content that builds and grows from one grade to the next. This courseware consists of video lessons, unlimited practice, worksheets, further investigations, and more! 

We are hosting a virtual information session next week to provide an overview of the Grade 4/5/6 Mathematics Courseware. The session will include a 30-minute presentation followed by a Q&A, where you will have the opportunity to ask any questions about the Courseware. The 12th Quantum for Educators (QEd) high-school teacher workshop will take place November 20-22 at the University of Waterloo. Hosted by the Institute for Quantum Computing (IQC) and formerly known as Schrödinger's Class, Quantum for Educators equips you with the ability to bring quantum science into your classrooms and confidently teach your students about quantum physics, quantum computing, quantum cryptography and more. 

Quantum mechanics is transforming the way we compute and communicate today, and it will change the technological landscape of tomorrow. This workshop will help you prepare your students for the future. Financial support for travel and accommodation is available for teachers within Canada, and applications are due October 1.

Sept 12 at the University of Toronto there will be a (free) full day Quantum Science workshop for teachers. We've been living through a quantum revolution for the past century so this is a great opportunity to connect with Canada's quantum centres of excellence and discover freely available teaching resources that will bring you and your students into a future we're rapidly approaching. 

Note: the material during the sessions will be aimed at a high-school level, but elements may be appropriate for other grades. Keen elementary and post-secondary educators are welcome to attend.
