In our 63rd year, we need an assistant editor who can be mentored to help with the editorial process for the Gazette, our award-winning mathematics education journal. This is a great opportunity for someone who likes to read, write and engage others constructively in academic discussion.
We also add people to our article reviewer list regularly if that is of interest. Get first dibs at reading the new articles and providing feedback.
We are always on the lookout for new articles -- You have an article to share inside of you. You had a great lesson (or one that bombed!), you read an interesting book, you designed a fascinating project, or you had a thought about planning. We have editors (see above!) available to help you move from a quick note to a full article.
Here's a thought! When you go to a great OAME2025 session in May -- write about it! (see below)
Email: gazette@oame.on.ca to volunteer or share your article idea.
We're getting excited for May's OAME2025 Conference! Click here for an easily readable, easily searchable, easily downloadable list & schedule of Sessions and Presenters.
We asked chatOAME (OAME's custom AI service, available under Member Links when you log into the OAME website) to look over the sessions and tell us the major themes:
Some of the key themes of the OAME2025 Conference include:
Equity and Inclusion: Many sessions focus on creating inclusive learning environments that address diverse learner needs. This includes exploring culturally responsive pedagogy, integrating Indigenous ways of knowing with 'Etuaptmumk-Two-Eyed Seeing', and making use of universal design for learning (UDL) frameworks to ensure that all students have access to meaningful mathematical learning experiences.
Technology and Innovation in Mathematics: Several sessions concentrate on integrating technology into the mathematics classroom. This includes using tools like Desmos, GeoGebra, Polypad, and Knowledgehook to enhance learning and assessment, as well as exploring online simulations and AI tools to bring concepts like machine learning and artificial intelligence into the classroom
Assessment and Metacognition: A significant number of sessions deal with modern assessment strategies aimed at promoting deeper understanding, academic integrity, and the inclusion of student voice in the assessment process.
Mathematics for Real-World Applications and Engagement: Sessions are designed to make math come alive by connecting it to real-world scenarios and societal issues through data visualization and problem-solving tasks. This includes promoting financial literacy and exploring engagement strategies like mathematical art and music creation.
Growth Mindset and Confidence Building: Workshops emphasize fostering a growth mindset to build student confidence in math, challenging math anxieties, and promoting perseverance through math puzzles and games. The sessions aim to cultivate a joy of mathematics and empower student.
We hope to see you in Oshawa on May 8th and/or 9th at the Ontario Tech University. Registration is through http://mcis.oame.on.ca
The Fields Institute Mathematics Education Forum is a free monthly Saturday morning get-together (virtual or face-to-face) that promotes discussion of issues in mathematics education at all levels, with special emphasis on education in the Province of Ontario.

The Fields Institute is internationally renowned for strengthening collaboration, innovation, and learning in mathematics. The Fields Institute is named after the Canadian mathematician John Charles Fields (1863-1932), who established the Fields Medal to recognize the most outstanding current research in mathematics. Information on Fields Medal winners can be found through the International Mathematical Union, which chooses the quadrennial recipients of the prize.
This is our last episode of the season and in it we hear the responses of all of this season's guests as they answer the question "What advice would you give your first year teacher self?" Listen here:

For three nights after March Break, over 30 sessions from classroom teachers (& a few friends of education) about the use of AI, the how, the why, the when... and the not. What's the current and future application of AI in Ontario K12 education? (.. not just math!) A special student panel will share their perspectives; what's really happening on their devices, in their lives?
The goal is to balance both the practical ("here's how I use AI to help me") and technological ("here's what's possible, or soon will be") and make connections across the province and across subjects. Registrants will have access to all recordings in case you miss a night or session.
