We're getting excited! We're a month away from when over 1000 mathematics educators gather in Oshawa for OAME2025! Get ready to share, learn and have fun with folks from across Ontario (and the rest of the continent!) - and do some math! Assessment, curriculum, feedback, equity, technology... there's a session for everyone, and a discussion space for all!
Check out the sessions at bit.ly/oame2025sessions and registration is still open through Easter (April 20th) at https://mcis.oame.on.ca The power of face-to-face conferences is the opportunity for serendipitous encounters, where you stumble on a great idea or overhear a fascinating conversation or discover an innovative new approach or tool and dive into a great new mathematics education rabbit hole!
Doing math on a webpage is never easy -- you need extensions and plugins, etc. But NOT for chatOAME! When you generate a word problem, worksheet or series of math solutions, click on the Export as Word Document button in the lower left, and it will generate a Word document with editable Math Equation Editor! Now, you can easily see and edit the Math like any other Equation Editor Math in a chatOAME-generated Word document, and adjust it to match your Math Communication philosophy!
Check out chatOAME's Insta www.instagram.com/oame.ai/ and TikTok www.tiktok.com/@oameai or our guide bit.ly/chatoameguide for more information. And send ideas, feedback or complaints to oame.ai@oame.on.ca
Check the March Edition of the Gazette for Jérôme Proulx's article on taxes, both sales and income tax. It provides both a historical and practical perspective for a great financial discussion at almost all levels of schooling.
You can find Jérôme's article -- and many other pieces of great mathematics education reading that prompt ideas -- at the OAME website under Publications when you log in to the OAME website. March 2025 has tangrams, space, cards, assessment, Ed Barbeau(!), Desmos and lots more!
SAME -- the Scarborough Association for Mathematics Education -- is running a math contest on Wednesday, April 23, 2025. It's an in-school event self-hosted at a time convenient to you and your (Scarborough) students!
Participants will compete in an individual math challenge.
25 multiple choice questions
40 minutes
More information, registration and practice materials are at https://same.oame.on.ca/student-initiatives
OAME members have access to all the back issues of the Gazette and the Abacus, simply by logging in to the OAME website! Once logged in, click on Member Links in the menu on the left side of the page, and then on Gazette archive. You can search by author name or article name, or choose any issue (right back to February 1962!) to view the table of contents and a PDF of the issue. Happy exploring!
Remember that chatOAME knows all about the Gazette and can find articles for you when you chat with it about mathematics education. You then have to go to the website and login to access the PDF, though... AI can't do everything (yet).
