HW-3:
Lasercutting

Lasercutting

Just a disclaimer, I ended up starting later than I wanted to because I fell pretty sick right after class last Thursday...and only really recovered around Monday night.

Old Homework's Inspiration

I somehow ended up circling back to wanting to make a phone holder for my old homework.

New Brainstorm

I immediately saw this on Thingiverse and thought it would be fun to cut and see how assembling would go. I was also curious about the accuracy of the laser cutter...

Cutting

The lasercutting was pretty straightforward and thankfully I didn't run into trouble w/ the machine or its settings

Measuring problem

However, I soon got really confused because the legs wouldn't fit into the holes. I initially thought it was because the width of the holes weren't accommodating my material's width (1/4" pink acrylic)...

Later, however I realized in a comment from the file that none of the measurements were accurate in general, and it wasn't just me who had issues assembling. I tried increasing the width of the hole to be the width of the material, but I also realized that other measurements were off.

A New Direction

I wanted to still make something I would be able to assemble, so I modified this rocket to have slits that were 1/4" thick.
