advocacy is NO LONGER a focus group
520 Resin Project
Some final products! Pressed flowers from our very own backyard garden.
Look out for our morning announcement on the 19 May for more details.
Bring Your Own Cs (BYOC) Campaign 2023 in NYGH
Morning Announcement and email shout out to the whole school for our "Circuit Breaker" energy campaign.
"Sharkee"
Sharkee is the name of our very lovable mascot (as you can see he is very cute)
A series of instagram posts about environmental problems involving sharks and the ocean (eg coral bleaching and oil spills)
Started due to a passion for the environment and habitat degradation faced by sharks
Very underdiscussed topic here in Singapore given wild sharks are uncommon
"Project Merry-Go-Round"
Made Instagram posts on circular economy
Set up booth at library where people can leave and take preloved stationary
Advocating for
Environmental benefits—reducing waste
Economic benefits—reducing resources in a resource scarce country like Singapore!
"The Energy Campaign"
Did you know that we waste about two-thirds of the roughly 100 quads of energy we use each year?
Main goal: educating the school population on the importance of saving energy
A booth was set up by the canteen together with posters around the school as constant reminders of the importance of saving energy
Who will be involved: advocacy members of ALL focus groups
What we'll be doing:
One meeting every 4 CCA sessions (you will get to meet with your other advocacy members) where y'all will discuss on a topic to address regarding energy
create three instagram posts on different aspects of the issue (i.e the problem, its cause, how to solve)
One large scale school project every semester, this can be a school wide interclass competition (anything you like it to be as long as its not overly absurd) and y'all can design posters to run in tangent with your schoolwide event
Advocacy
Who will be involved: advocacy members of EACH focus group [this is purely individual focus group work though you can collaborate with another focus group]
What we'll be doing [y'all can come up with your own ideas too] :
Cafe: raising awareness on sustainable sources for coffee, milk etc, the benefits of sustainable sources (economic, cultural etc)
Upcycling: biweekly upcycling guides on how to create fun things with recycled materials, applications and benefits of upcycling
Backyard: blogs on updates in backyard together with pictures, can give gardening tips together with environmentally related fun facts
Mediums for the above: instagram posts, google site, instagram stories, you get to call the shots (pun intended because shots of coffee at cafe...haha..)
I will come around every 3 CCA sessions to check on your progress
