18 November: Year end camp & S4 Farewell
A memorable end to the year!
The year-end NYNS Camp was a blast, with the EXCO planning an exciting range of activities that brought everyone together. The day ended on a high note with a BBQ dinner and a heartfelt farewell to our Sec 4 seniors. A big thank you to our seniors for their invaluable contributions and dedication over the years—you’ve left a lasting legacy. Wishing you all the best in your future endeavours!
Celebrating Dedication and Achievements!
During the year-end camp, we held a special award ceremony to acknowledge and affirm the hard work of every NYNS member. Your dedication and passion have made this year truly remarkable, and we couldn’t be prouder of all that you’ve achieved together. Congratulations to everyone for your outstanding efforts—let’s continue to grow and make a difference!
1 November: ESN Symposium
During the symposium, students listened to sharings by 4 schools about their projects as part of the Every Singaporean a Naturalist (ESN) programme. The ESN programme is organised by Nature Society Singapore (NSS), and involves conservation-relevant biodiversity monitoring. One such example is bird-watching, which our CCA actively participates and contributes to. Afterwards the sharings, there was a prize presentation where schools that did well and observed the most number of birds were awarded. Here are some of the participant's reflections:
I learnt about horseshoe crabs, birds and hawksbill turtles at the different booths! There were also sharings about outreach projects other primary and secondary schools did with the community or their schools and they were very inspiring. I think it was a very fun experience with yummy refreshments and I learnt a lot about NSS and their history. It was totally worth attending. 10/10 would recommend!
The ESN Symposium was really fun! We had the opportunity to learn from students of all ages, and it was an eye-opener to learn about the thoughts and experiences of both Primary and Secondary school students! It was really cool learning about the various initiatives that students have carried out in order to conserve biodiversity, and it is touching that even primary school students are motivated to participate in the conservation of biodiversity!
27 August: Screening of "Jane Goodall: Reasons for Hope"@ Science Centre Omni Theatre
On Tuesday, NYNS visited the Science Centre Omni Theatre and watched “Jane Goodall: Reasons for hope”. Dr Jane Goodall has been a beacon of hope for everyone around her, and her story has inspired so many of us to strive to do our part in the fight against climate change and loss of biodiversity. Even at the ripe age of 90, she still continues to advocate for what she believes in, to pass her knowledge down, and to spark the seeds of change in all of us.
After viewing the movie, we moved through the Science Centre and visited the Climate Change exhibition. We enjoyed ourselves throughly, and this is certainly another experience we will not forget.
“What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make” -Jane Goodall
8 August: Bottle collection @ ND Cross Country run
On this day, our CCA set up a booth to collect the isotonic drink cans from runners to recycle. Runners were provided with water to rinse their cans with to clean their cans and prevent contamination of the other products to be recycled. An email with a tutorial of how to wash the bottles was also sent out to the school prior to the event. Overall, it was a pretty successful event and we managed to gather many bottles.
31 July: CLOCS week
During common recess on 31 July, we set up a booth to share with the school what our CCA does. There were games that taught students about the different drinks in our cafe and showed them the various types of plants we have in our backyard garden. A terrarium section was also set up to give the students a more hands-on experience. They were provided with glass jars or plastic bottles to decorate and fill with rocks and soils to build their very own terrarium. Many students turned up, and everyone immersed enjoyed themselves immensely.
20 May: Roots and Shoots
This year's theme was Ocean and Marine Conservation, here are some of our member's reflections
"I enjoyed hearing from students at Hwa Chong Institution and Raffles Girls' School as they shared their learnings and projects. Their innovative ideas and initiatives, particularly in the areas of waste reduction, and eco-therapy, have made a significant impact on the community."
"I find the sharing on sea waste and measures the government has taken, and we as citizens should take to reduce pollution to be really insightful, and the speakers have done their best in making this session an interactive one for all."
"I enjoyed learning about the different issues faced by the marine creatures by the different presenters, eg ocean acidification’s impact on coral reefs and also the meaningful projects established to raise awareness about these issues."
17-19 April: National Youth Environmental Conference
Over the three days, 5 members headed down to Nan hua High School to participate in a Model United Nation discussing various environmental issues. In the shoes of world leaders, NYEC allowed the students to gain a deep insight of the existing problems as well as work on innovation and critical thinking skills. Two of the students also won best position paper and best delegate respectively in their council.
16 April: Eco Bricks by Ground Up Initiative
Our members made eco bricks by stuffing soft plastics from our mass plastic collection, into plastic bottles. The bricks will then be used to build a playground tunnel in Nee Soon.

19 March: Primate sharing by Jane Goodall Institute, Singapore
by Mr. Amos Chua from JGIS
Our members got the opportunity to be inspired and learn all about long tailed macaques and what we can do to protect them. It was surprisingly interesting learning facts such as the expressions long tailed macaques make and what they meant. By the end of the sharing, we forged a better understanding on the importance of protecting the animals and conserve the nature.
