ViaRT 2025 Competition: 3rd Prize Most Artistic Award
By Yue Shangru, Thoon Wathan, Liu Jiaxuan, An Yitian
This artwork aims to show how fast fashion brands enter our lives quickly and leave lasting damages long after. Using meteorites as the main focus point, the artwork represents consequences of fast fashion, impacting us seriously with every one that charges towards earth. Each meteor symbolises major issues within the fast fashion industry, including rapid trend cycles, overconsumption, and a lack of awareness of their impacts.
Greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide are released from factories as demonstrated on the left. As the demand for fast fashion intensifies, this contributes to global warming and excessive use of natural resources. The raw materials are obtained by mass mining, and huge amounts of water are needed to grow textile plants. Land that could be used to grow food is instead cleared for cotton farming or rearing sheep for wool which results in deforestation. The mannequins dressed in low-cost clothing may appear visually appealing, attracting customers, but are often made from short-lasting fabrics that are difficult to recycle.
Overconsumption is further represented by consumers purchasing more clothing than necessary. Many of these items are rarely worn and soon discarded. Thus, tons of textile waste accumulate, causing landfills to expand. Decomposing fabric releases microplastics into drainage systems, polluting our world. They threaten lives, destroy ecosystems, and enter food chains, placing everyone at risk. Through this artwork, we hope to encourage viewers to reflect on how their consumption habits could lead to environmental consequences hidden behind fast fashion.
To make the artwork more impactful, we added on cloth to link it further with the topic of textile waste. With every stroke of the brush, our opinions on fast fashion is expressed, hoping to raise awareness for this serious issue.

Ocean Adaptation Challenge
During the June holidays, four students from Nanyang Nature Society - Hanyi, Yiming, Tiffany and Valery - participated in a week-long programme organised by the Singapore Oceanarium in anticipation of the new Oceanarium's launch. They learnt about biomimicry and how marine animals adapt to survive in the wild. As a team, they designed a prototype to tackle ocean pollution, utilising 3D modelling to showcase their ideas. On 26th July, they had the opportunity to share their project at the Oceanarium's opening and were proud to receive the Silver award in the junior category.

"The Last Iceberg"
By Feng Han Yi, Liu Yuling Crystal and Cheng Han Ru, Lanette
Description of artwork:
"The Last Iceberg" is a conceptual 3D artwork that reflects the critical consequences of climate change on our planet, when global temperatures exceeds the 1.5°C limit set by the Paris Agreement.
This piece is inspired by the devastating but imminent reality of a warming world where the last remaining fragments of ice symbolise a fragile environment on the brink of collapse. The artwork’s pyramid shape, with animals and ice at the peak, emphasises that our ecosystems—and the diversity of life they support—are precariously balanced, at risk of toppling with every degree of temperature rise. Conversely, the submerged section of the iceberg represents the unseen forces driving the rise of climate change, where the plastic bags symbolise pollution, excessive waste, and human activity. By placing them below the waterline, we emphasise how these hidden factors, often ignored or overlooked, are at the root of the climate crisis.
The structure of the artwork is built on a foundation of upcycled materials, including A3 wood as the base, pieces of styrofoam representing melting icebergs, and plastic bags representing pollution.
With "The Last Iceberg", we invite viewers to reflect on their role in environmental preservation, consider the impact of their actions and to see the beauty in what remains. We hope that eventually, the collective action from every one of us, can prevent the last iceberg from melting away.
