Partnerships and External Programmes
Under the collaboration with Food Citizen SG, NYNS members are guided by the mentors, Cuifen and Chingwei, to create an edible garden with an array of biodiversity, ranging from garden toads to butterflies and bees.
As part of the ESN programme, NYNS members are trained to conduct regular monitoring of the biodiversity present in the school to gain experience, nature knowledge, and scientific skills to become naturalists.
Collected data will be uploaded to our school's page on iNaturalist at http://inaturalist.org/projects/nss-esn-nanyang-girls-high-school
What is the ESN programme about?
Every Singaporean A Naturalist is Nature Society (Singapore)'s flagship citizen science project and nature education programme aimed at nurturing hearts and minds for nature, and ultimately lead participants to support advocacy and conservation of the natural environment around us.
Student Training
ESN project officers conduct a minimum of two training sessions for students from new schools in Term 1 to cover the following content:
Session 1 : Introduction to NSS and ESN (2 hours)
Nature and Nature Conservation in Singapore
Citizen Science and ESN including Monitoring Methodology
Session 2: Bird Species Identification (2 hours)
Urban Biodiversity Monitoring & Reflection
The urban biodiversity monitoring requires participants to monito along a pre-determined 100 metre transect for 20 minutes, and record the number of individuals of each sighted species, for each monitoring session. Monitoring sessions are to be conducted at least once every two weeks, with a minimum of 10 sessions per year. The collected monitoring data are to be uploaded to the school's project page on iNaturalist.
