Testing Programs

New Jersey State Testing

The Northern Valley Regional High School District (NVRHS) participates in all New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) required assessments. Students participate in the New Jersey Student Learning Assessment (NJSLA) for English Language Arts, Mathematics and Science.

Depending on a student’s year of graduation, NJSLA ELA and Mathematics assessments have graduation implications – for both participation and performance – as explained in more detail below.

The NJDOE requires all public school students enrolled in eligible courses to participate in NJSLA assessments. NVRHS is proud to have had very high participation in all student groups. We strive to maintain the NJDOE's benchmark of 95% participation.

Students at NVRHS are expected to participate in state-required testing. Moreover, in continuing the commitment and tradition of academic excellence at NVRHS, all students are expected to try their best on all state assessments.

Advanced Placement (AP) examinations are administered in May according to the College Board schedule.

ACT, SAT and PSAT

Northern Valley is a testing location for College Board and the ACT. SAT, SAT Subject tests, PSAT/NMSQT and ACTs are offered throughout the school year. Administrations follow the protocols, rules and codes of ACT and The College Board.

All testing accommodations are determined by the College Board and ACT. Accommodations for the high school granted through IEP, 504 or other health or education plans at the high school are not granted for purposes of high school learning, and may not necessarily be honored by the College Board and ACT. Families are responsible for applying for these accommodations directly with ACT and the College Board.
