Clark County School District Regulation 5131, Dress and Appearance, is a policy at McCaw that requires students to wear Standard Student Attire for the purpose of increasing student achievement, promoting safety, and enhancing a positive school climate.
Tops & Bottoms
Shirts/blouses/dresses in basic/optional colors (plain or school logo, long- or short-sleeved, with collar)
Sweaters in basic/optional colors worn over approved shirts
Sweatshirts in basic/optional colors (plain or school logo)
Jumpers/dresses in basic/optional colors (plain or school logo, long- or short-sleeved, with collar)
Pants, shorts, jeggings/yoga pants, skirts, skorts in basic/optional colors (sized to fit).
Blue jeans in basic/optional colors (sized to fit).
Sweatpants in basic/optional colors (sized to fit).
Tights/leggings in basic/optional colors worn under clothing (solids)
Colors and styles of outerwear, such as jackets and coats, are not required to meet the color/style specifications of Standard Student Attire when worn during recess or outside during PE.
All items of clothing must be in basic solid colors with no patterns, words, or brand logos. Approved colors are:
*White
*Gray
*Purple (no lilac, mauve, or pale shades)
*Navy blue (no light blue)
*Khaki
Visible jewelry, studs, and other items that are attached by body piercing and are considered by the administration to be a safety issue or disruption to the school setting will be prohibited.
The hair color of an unnatural hue (green, blue, etc.), mohawks, and/or any hairstyle that becomes distracting to the educational setting due to an unusual cut or controversial style will be prohibited.
SPIRIT DAY REGULATIONS:
No wearing crop tops (no skin showing between bottom of shirt/blouse and top of pants or skirts), strapless, low-cut clothing, clothing with slits, or tops and outfits that provide minimum coverage.
No wearing clothing with spaghetti straps. All sleeveless shirts must have straps at least three inches wide and cover the shoulder.
All students are required to wear the adopted school attire. Violations will result in disciplinary action in alignment with the school-based progressive discipline plan.

Can a student wear collarless jumpers/dresses in approved colors?
Yes, WITH a collar underneath in approved colors.
What color denim can they wear?
Denim in SSA approved colors or solid blue jean material,
Not allowed: acid washed, striped, bedazzled, ripped, or torn material.
Can students wear any socks?
Yes, at this time, they may wear any pattern/color socks (in alignment with reg. 5131 appropriateness at school).
Girls can wear "tights" in print, but NOT leggings. "Tights" are in the category of socks - undergarments.
What shoes can they wear?
In accordance with CCSD Regulation 5131, students in Clark County School District are required to wear shoes with sole Specifically, house slippers and shoes with wheels are not permitted. It is also recommended that students wear closed-toed shoes, especially on days when they have physical education.
Can a student wear black?
No. Black is not a color in our SSA approved colors.
Can they wear black or any color/pattern under a uniform skirt or shirt?
No. It must be solid and approved SSA colors.
Can students wear grey shorts, pants, or skirt?
Yes, it is one of our SSA approved colors
Can a student wear purple shorts?
Yes, it is a SSA approved color.
What are our SSA approved colors?

Grey (all shades)

Navy Blue (ONLY Navy, not light blue, royal blue, or teal)
Purple (ONLY Purple, not mauve, lilac, or very pinkish purple)
Can a student wear a sweatshirt with print on it in the classroom?
No. Must be solid in approved SSA color.
Can a student bring a sweatshirt (coat) to wear at recess that is not SSA?
Yes, but not inside the building. If the student is cold inside the classroom, the teacher may send home reminders for an SSA approved sweatshirt/sweater.
Can a student wear gloves in the classroom?
No. No outerwear is permitted to be worn inside buildings. That is part of CCSD Reg. 5131. Teachers must request students to remove and place into their backpack until they are going outside and needed during appropriate weather.
Can a student have pink or other unnatural hair color?
Yes. However, The hair color of an unnatural hue (green, blue, etc.), mohawks, and/or any hairstyle that becomes distracting to the educational setting due to an unusual cut or controversial style will be prohibited. If a distraction, the teacher may seek assistance from the admin.
Can a student wear a phone watch?
No. It must be turned off and placed into their backpack until the end of the day, unless it is a medical device approved by the nurse and admin.
Can students wear jewelry?
Yes, unless it becomes a distraction to the learning environment or promoted illegal or violent conduct reg. 5131
If a distraction, the teacher may request items to be placed into a backpack and not worn.
