McCAW Instruction

McCaw STEAM Academy learning curriculum uses a Project-Based Learning (PBL) model in which students practice grade-level appropriate Nevada Academic Content Standards while engaging students in analytical thinking, problem-solving strategies, communication skills, and hands-on tasks. 

In addition to the diverse projects, the students complete lessons in EnVisions Math, HMH Reading Program along with Guided Reading lessons, Reading Plus, Lexia Core 5, ST Math, EiE, FOSS Science, and Amplify Science. Through our teaching strategies and alignment to the standards, students work on their own learning path with the student’s academic ability to tackle the standards. Online programs place the student at an appropriate starting point and then monitor progress as the student works through the program. The teacher will continue to set individual student goals and monitors the student’s progress as well and makes adjustments as needed. Specific and intensive interventions and scaffolds will be created for those students that need additional support or enrichment.
