Gordon McCaw STEAM Academy Elementary School is being recognized by the National Association of Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) State Program Administrators (NAESPA) as a 2023 National ESEA Distinguished School. I am proud of the hard work of your students, teachers, and administrators. McCaw is one of 65 schools throughout the country being nationally recognized for exceptional student achievement in 2023.
Gordon McCaw STEAM Academy Elementary School has been recognized as a Category 3 school for excellence in serving special populations of students for two consecutive years. This distinction reflects the school's unwavering commitment to providing an inclusive and supportive learning environment, ensuring that all students, regardless of their unique needs, receive a high-quality education.
McCaw STEAM Academy Principal Jennifer Furman-Born was thrilled with the national award. "We are honored and excited to have received this recognition. It results from our school community's hard work and dedication to growing minds. Our priority is focusing on strong Tier 1 instruction, STEAM [Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics], and setting individual learning paths for all students. It is through our positive school climate and culture that the McCaw staff is able to set the stage for students to be motivated and excited to learn and excel!”
Magnet Applications are open for the 2024-2025 School Year. Parents can apply for their children going into the K-5th grades through an application at: https://applyccsd.schoolmint.com/login
Students who currently attend McCaw in grades K-4th will not need to apply. 5th-grade students need to apply to magnet middle schools. Call the front office for help or additional information, at 702-799-8930.

As a Nationally Certified-Demonstration Magnet School, our school demonstrated through evidence, reflection, and strategic action, that we have established the Standards of Excellence in our school.
Magnet Schools of America (MSA), the national association of magnet and theme-based schools, created this national certification process designed to recognize the most exemplary magnet schools in the nation and help them as they continue to grow and provide high-quality, innovative curriculum and instructional programs that promote choice, equity, diversity, and academic excellence for all students. The certification process is based on the five pillars of magnet schools and the National Magnet School Standards of Excellence. These standards define the essential elements and characteristics of high-quality magnet programs. We commend our staff, students, families, and partners for their active roles in supporting our cognizant efforts to thrive for excellence. Being recognized as a Nationally Certified-Demonstration Magnet School is a tremendous honor and accomplishment.

It is our goal to continue to provide an educational learning experience for our students to Explore… Discover… and Learn! At McCaw, we understand children love to explore, discover, and learn new things. We are excited to get students fully immersed back into learning through our STEAM program providing students the opportunity to learn through real-life applications in the important areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Math. Students will engage in hands-on projects where problem-solving, collaboration, and the results of their efforts make the lessons more relevant than a textbook alone ever could. Our students will receive an individualized, problem-based learning experience supported by the use of technology as a learning tool. Additionally, students will engage in social-emotional learning such as collaborating effectively as a team member, creatively solving complex problems, communicating effectively, and thinking critically.
