U3 P.L.A.Y.

Physical Literacy (and You)!

Physical Literacy is when children have developed the skills and confidence to participate in many different physical activities and sports. Fundamental movement skills such as throwing, catching, running, and jumping are the beginning of physical literacy.

Physical Literacy is important because it gives kids the confidence to stay active for life. It is not about being a “superstar athlete” – everyone can learn fundamental movement skills, and everyone can become physically literate! Preschool is the perfect time to start! P.L.A.Y. takes place on our field behind Stoney Creek Baptist Church on Saturday mornings. A NorWest P.L.A.Y. representative will offer a 10-week unit designed to develop physical literacy using the ball whenever possible. At the end of each session, kids will have enjoyed a series of fun activities and they will have taken one more step in developing their physical literacy needed to play soccer and become successful in many other pursuits!

This is a 6-week program for children who turn three in the registration calendar year and their parents. On-field, 1-on-1 participation of a parent is required during the weekly activities, which are intended to develop Physical Literacy and to introduce families to the basics of P.L.A.Y., with a ball, while working on physical literacy's ABCs (Agility, Balance, & Coordination).
