Be Good!
Catch Them Being Good - It's our philosophy!
At NorWest, it's our goal to provide a safe & F.A.I.R. soccer experience - not just for players but coaches and volunteers too!
We 💚to Catch them Being Good and recognize their hard work with our reward system.
Our reward system uses our own NorWest currency! NW wooden nickels are discs that are worth five (5) “Club Dollars,” which can be used as a credit toward any payments within the club.
No ratios or percentages - Just $5.00 each!
• Jackets with NorWest Club insignia,
• Club shirts with NorWest Cub insignia,
• Player soccer season registration fees,
• Player camps, development programs,
• LTPD Coaching certification courses offered through the club
• NCCP courses offered through the club
Earning wooden nickels is easy. Attending most club events and courses that you are invited to, or signed up for, earns them!
Exceptional coaches, managers, and volunteers are also rewarded when the positive impact they are having on the Club is brought to the Club’s attention. Our goal is to show appreciation to our members whenever we ‘Catch them Being Good’, offer them the recognition that is useful to them and provide an incentive for them to ‘Just Be Good’.
The best part about this system is the simplicity in tracking individual rewards earned. All members do is collect their wooden nickels and bring them into the office to redeem them. Once redeemed, the nickels are given back to the Club so that they can be re-distributed.
We greatly appreciate the work of all club members, and this reward system is just for them!
"Just Be Good"
"Soccer should be a tool we use to inspire children to Be Good. Too many folks use children to win trophies or accolades when we have the potential to use Soccer to make Good people." JJ
What drives Jenn? - People do ask!
In 2013, NorWest Soccer sent two club representatives to Quebec for the Sport for Life Summit to get ready for the introduction of Long Term Athlete Development & Long Term Player Development (soccer-specific).
Then, Canadian Women's National Coach John Herdman gave the speech linked below - in the purple bar.
From there, Jenn came home with the direction she wanted to share with you & your children;
"Just Be Good"
"I like to Use Soccer to Make Good People more than I like to use people to make us (insert: team, club, sport) look good. It IS playing the Long Game but it's sort of a Code at NW; Just Be Good. You will find it threaded throughout the club - & modelled by the likes of John Herdman."
In 2018, NorWest Soccer was nearly lost completely. Jenn's strong moral compass, which she attributes to a handful of Good influences she had via Soccer, and her determination to stick by the Good Code are why your children can still participate and why you can read this today!
She managed to save the club in part by recognition of her dependability & the trust NorWest Soccer families had because of it and by her resolve to foster independence, Catch them Being Good(ing) & demonstrate Responsibility & Reason for the club's membership.
It's a philosophy and a process she wants team officials to adopt & role model for players, & in turn, for the players watching them. Back to the basics.
In 2023, Jenn & John Herdman chatted again at the Ontario Soccer Summit (no pic.). They discussed the Olympic Gold, Jessie Fleming's role in it, and the Northern Super League with renowned player Diana Mathieson from Herdman's initial CAN WNT.
It's a sign of the next Good thing to come!
So much had happened over those 10 years; so much Good leaving both National Teams, NorWest Soccer, and soccer in Canada stronger than ever!
Are you Being Good?

Ask the right questions at the right time, right place and to the right people. John’s journey started with a team that finished dead last at the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup, and that team carried the trauma of that loss with them.
Nine months later, in the London Olympics 2012, Canada’s got its first podium finish since 1904! John looks back at his life and his Nanna’s “weighty” words of “Be Good!”
Be good when you go to your aunt’s house.
Be good when you go to church.
What does “Be Good” mean to you? Are you good both at work and at home? Are you as good as you used to be? Are the people around you telling you the truth when you ask, then you are good? Everything that happens on the field is translated off the field and vice versa. Do you always remain good?
Being good is a habit, something that burns deep inside. You need to be able to Be Good consistently. You can only be great when you are consistently good and only great when you are good when the sh*t hits the fan and still good.
