This age group will play twice a week- one practice and one game. Certified Game Leaders will facilitate the games under Ontario Soccer's Game Leader guidelines. Teams will also work with a volunteer coach on individual development and become familiar with some of the rules of the game. Regular season games will be played 5v5 on quarter fields. Practices are held in a group format on full fields in the north end of London using the Ontario Soccer Preferred Training Method.
As a cooperatively run not-for-profit community club, all our teams require volunteers.
Contact us if you are interested in coaching your player's team at icoach@norwestsoccer.com
per Ontario Soccer LTPD standards
At this age, practices focus on developing Four Core Competencies for Long Term Player Development with a greater focus on soccer game skills, as outlined by Ontario Soccer.
Small-sided games:
Can be 3v3, 4v4 or 5v5 as they grow. Small fields & small goals are ideal.
Soccer Coordination:
A ball for each player; lots of touches, left & right foot, begin to use different parts of foot & body.
Soccer Technique:
Fun activities & games with a ball each; concentrate on dribbling, passing, and shooting (instead of just "kicking" the ball).
General Movements:
Running, jumping, twisting, rolling, hopping, moving backwards
(& laughing).
U7 FUNdamental Growing Pains:
As your player grows, their needs change. Our divisions evolve like our players!
In keeping with the Canada Soccer Grassroots Standards, our U7 through U9 program differs from our Active Start (U4-U6) programming.
U7 through U9:
teams have different coloured uniforms,
practices rotate stations, are club-held & parent-led,
schedules use Home & Away games,
use Canada Soccer-sized 5v.5 fields (listed below),
are refereed by developing Ontario Soccer student Game Leaders
Incorporating these developmental advantages may cause conflicts if you have children in other divisions. As players age, they have different Stage of Development needs, which we have constructed our program around for their benefit.
We invite you to consider this when planning your season.
With carpooling in mind, we sort teams by postal code, but careful Friend Requests can be especially helpful as players grow up, too.
In 2012, NorWest Soccer built the following specially sized 5v.5 fields for our community with the City of London:
Hastings Park
NorWest Optimist Park
Coombs Park
These fields are designed just for the FUNdamentals stage of development!
Uniform
-Soccer Jersey
-Soccer Shorts
-Soccer Socks
-Under 7 also includes a size 3 ball
10-12 weeks of volunteer-led soccer (Mother Nature providing);
-1 PTM practice weekly
-1 game night weekly
Fun Day
-a mid-August Saturday event that includes;
-a game,
-awards,
-DIY photobooth,
-pizza slice & drink
The number of teams we field is dictated by community demand. Program times are affected by division registration. There were about 10 teams for each division in 2025.
Season Length:
Mother Nature providing, U7s' 1st Practice will take place on May 24th in 2025.

Time slots may include:

We're happy to offer you this outline of our intentions for the season as a courtesy to help you plan your family's summer. This outline is dependent on player and coach registration, so it may change as late as May 31st.
We work hard to avoid making adjustments after we publish it, but we would like to ask you to please keep this in mind when making plans.

We try hard not to make changes to the outline above, but final division schedules are determined by player & coach registrations annually and sometimes necessitate changes. Late registrations can mean spring schedule changes.
We aim to publish full schedules the week of May 1st annually in your PowerUp Member Zone Calendar.
PowerUp Connect (optional app) will help you keep track once the season starts.
U3-U6 & U8+ use the Fields behind either West Park Church or Stoney Creek Baptist Church
Under 7 - Hastings Park Fields (since it is the closest to central London compared to our other field options.
Field use is always dependent on registration. We co-opted to build three fields specific to the Canada Soccer standards for this age group. All three fields may be used in the course of our season. We like to assign players' Home Game Fields closer to their postal code; this can usually be arranged.
